Best Party Towns & Overnight Away Day Towns

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

Best Party Towns & Overnight Away Day Towns

Post by DB10GOONER »

Inspired by BG's possible giving up of his job and fucking off to Laaaahhhdon to work/drink/doss/fuck.

What's the best party city/town you've been to and/or the best away day where you stayed overnight and partied?

For me, top party towns are;

1. Dublin.
2. London.
3. Belfast.
4. Amsterdam.

Best awayday overnight;

1. Paris.
2. Copenhagen.
3. Manchester (surprisingly good...)

Belfast was mental back in the late 80's early 90's. Everyone just seemed to be coked/smoked and E'd off their heads and the ammount of fucking was unnatural up there. Maybe it was just a huge release (oo-er) from the violence.

Paris in May 06 was the best away trip ever. Drinking for 28 hours solid (even in the stadium watching the match!) It was such a huge event and then the wake after we lost was just different class. We (all the thousands of Gooners present) went out in fucking style that night. 8) :barscarf:

I had a pretty good time up in Newcastle for a night out.
Athens was a gooden as well with Olympiakos away. We managed to find the elusive Frank Stubbs as well... we were certain he was a myth created by Pravda.com but he was gracious enough when we drunkenly told him we though he was not real :D

Ended up partying all night anyway and when we got back to the hostel at 6 we planned to have an hour's sleep and get up at 7am to see some sights. Funnily enough we didn't make it and turned up at the airport with minutes to spare!

Dublin was sick on my 21st birthday in January as well with my cousin and her mates and the Irish Gooners on this forum may laugh but I've had a fair few good nights out in Sligo and surrounding little towns :barscarf:

Having travelled around Europe, the best places I visited were Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich in Germany. Munich was the best of the 3.

Prague is awesome but youve got to watch out for pickpockets.

Amsterdam is good too, but I'm not a fan of weed but you can still have a good time.

Party Towns / overninght towns
1. London
2. Liverpool
3. Derry : far better than Belfast; which is still a sectarian shithole.

As for manchester, any lads I know who go to utd games, reckon it's piss poor and they prefer to stay in Liverpool.

Amsterdam by a mile, for me. Just a great city and very relaxed, too. Big fan of Copenhagen as well, but it's a little pricey.

Actually, I think drinking and relaxing in pretty much ANY foreign town or city is great, and I've got fond memories of every trip.... apart from Hamburg that is, where a man in his 50s followed me for ages through the Reeperbahn area of the city (the sleazy district) and ended up propositioning me in a park :? - He thought I was a male prostitute, I think :? Hell, I was only 16 and looked younger - bloody perv! :x

Oh, I turned him down, by the way

EDIT: Forgot Krakow, Warsaw and Prague. All great places (especially Krakow) although Prague had so many tourists that I didn't get to see much of the famous bridge even when I was stood on the bloody thing!

I'm a great fan of Brighton and Bournemouth for a nights out.

Also Albufeira, Portugal is fantastic for a drunken few nights away

great thread. i'm still looking for hot places to go.

i will, however, head back to laahndan at every arsenal match :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

I forgot to mention that the trip ot Frankfurt was because of a decent hostel in the middle of the red light district, it was a crap place to visit!

Bournemouths a good night out, but its like magaluf in the summer! Full of northern stag parties and wankers up
For a scrap!
Amsterdam was my second home
For a while, love the place and the vibe, but berlin is the best city ive ever visited, recently went to riga in latvia. Place is fucking mental! Ask for the black shit in the clubs and see if you can remember
Anything of that night!! Anywhere you can fire ak47s pissed is always going to be an experience!!!

Must dispute Goonersid's comments about Belfast. Being a resident of said town all my life I've had no problem there. Even during the height of the Troubles I could still enjoy a night out without any sectarian bollocks. Still the same but then every town has it's share of idiots.

Only been to your fair city during the day so can't comment on the nightlife. Did raise a glass to you over the Saville Report. Always good to get the truth out there.

Krakow is pretty good, you can visit Auschwitz from there which I would recommend despite it being so harrowing. Will never forget seeing a group of lads on a stag do there all in bright pink tee shirts (bearing in mind this was March and freezing). Absolute nobs. Anyway same trip we got the overnight train to Prague which was also enjoyable. Beer Factory is immense (where you pour your own beers on the table and have an electronic scoreboard showing how much you've drunk compared to other tables) as was the Empire Club (what goes on tour stays on tour)

Also of note: Cologne (pubtastic), Brussels (expensive), Galway and Salou (but apparently this has gone downhill recently). Going to Lisbon next month...anyone been? Spending three days at the Optimus Alive music festival and a couple of nights enjoying the world cup and whatnot.

hell yes, some lovely girls in there, FANTASTIC dancers

1. krakow
2. amsterdam
3. st. petersburg
4. berlin
5. glasgow

belfast, prague, and gothenburg are great towns, but these 5 are special. the only over night away day i've done is rome, which is awesome but definitely not much part of a party town.
