At the start of the world cup chellini was the defender that should be top of our list of targets and I believed that he was gettable too if we were willing to show ambition (mad idea I know  ). Right now I have to say that simon kjaer has looked very very impressive and is exactly the type of player we need. Without wishing to sound arrogant (there is a lot of it floating about on here lately  ) but the guy plays for palermo and I cannot see his club being able to hold onto him if the big clubs come looking to buy him and we are meant to be one such club. Of course we will sit on our arses and do fcuk all and after the tournament is over the genuine big clubs will battle for his signiture and down the line we will hear the inevitable wenger quote saying how he looked at him but how we didnt need him/cost too much/wrong nationality/lacking in spirit or some such bullshit line  The time to act arsene is now so dust off the cobwebs and bring in this boy cos we need more than one centre half with the imminent departures of sol, gallas and tweety

He looks like a good solid centre back, who would do well partnering TV. What was worrying is that the commentator at the game said Real Madrid has been looking at him. We all know we can't compete with those Spanish Chavs. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

If, and I know it is a big if, but if we are interested in signing him (as has been rumoured for a long time) then now is the time to sign him instead of waiting to get into a financial shootout with the likes of madrid when we know we cant win it. We would also be hoping that the likes of madrid would have other priorities and that might allow us to sneak in under the radar. Of course we too should have other priorities (keeper) but I guess wenger believes that he wont have much competition for the schwarzer transfer

I think an awful lot of players will be linked to Real Madrid as Mourinho will have a lot of cash at his disposal and needs to turn them into the great team they once were.

From what Ive heard of this Kjaer fella, he would be great alongside the Verminator. Sign him up Arsene!!!

Like Augie I too called for the signing of Chiellini(before Verm arrived), that said it would be highly unnecessary to have 2 first choice left footed CBs regardless of cost.

As for the Simon Kjaer to Real Madrid rumour it seems unlikely to me because Mourinho will look to sign experienced and totally developed players as that has been the foundations of his success.
‘I like players in the final part of their career,’ he said. ‘I love to have some footballers who are 33 or 34. They are players that you buy and you do not get your money back. But if you get good performances for two or three years, you get your money’s worth. Both (Lampard and Gerrard) are great players and they always give you everything.’

The only other top teams I see trying to sign Simon are Bayern and/or Utd.

Knowing Johan will need time after a year without footie, I do hope Arsene considers Kjaer because from his defensive positioning, tackling, ball control, shooting and passing ability(Kolo was our last defender to assist a goal with a long ball behind the opposition's defence to our striker) the lad has what we need plus he is right footed which will bring balance to our defence.
His most famous moment: During his first few caps for Denmark, Kjaer was assigned with shadowing Sweden’s star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic when Denmark faced its Scandinavian rivals in World Cup qualifying. Denmark won both matches 1-0, and on both occasions, Kjaer frustrated Ibrahimovic, barring him from scoring.

The same was said during commentary of yesterday's game.

Its that or lets get Laurent Kosc what's his face and hope he is good 8)
