I'm tellin you guys, my city has not been so excited over a sports team since Michael left the Bulls. Bigger than when the Bears went to the Superbowl in 2006.
We have had ONE title since 1983...we deserve a title as much as anyone....after all the Bears and the Bulls have had it great ....not so for your hopeless Baseball teams....but if my Flyers can win tonight....its gonna be a tough last matchCUBBIES

Lesser of two evils the Cubs...but still I am delighted they havent won a pennant for years and years and years....and years.....and of course they are a major rival to my Phillies......so they suck too....oh and Wrigley Field is a dump Nick...SWLGooner wrote:Goood call. Wembley, surely??Yankee_Gooner_Dandee wrote:Dump...yes perhaps, but more history than any other stadium in the world that I can think of outside of Fenway Park in Boston.
The famous twin towers, host to the Olympic Games (1948), the 1966 World Cup including the Final (England vs. West Germany), countless FA Cup Finals & semi-finals, 5 European Cup Finals, European Championships 1996, home to the England football team, host of one of the most famous concerts of all time (Live Aid) and played host to Michael Jackson, U2, Queen, The Rolling Stones, and countless others....
That stadium has history, my friend. Bags of it! and not just local domestic history, but international, worldwide history.
Of Wembley Stadium, Pelé said, "Wembley is the cathedral of football. It is the capital of football and it is the heart of football"
Of Fenway Park & Wrigley's Spearmint Field, Pele said "where? ah, is that where they play rounders?"

EDIT: Hmmm... I guess Wembley doesn't count anymore as it was demolished

How about Wimbledon (home of tennis), St Andrews (home of golf) and Yankee Stadium ('Home of Champions', Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Joe Dimaggio, etc)??

No i am born and bred London NickSWLGooner wrote:Sammy are you from Philly/did you spend some time there?
But i was introduced to Philly sports by an US Marine when i was in the forces. Since 1993 I have regularly travelled over to Philly to see my good friend and his family and catch NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB and a little bit of NASCAR and CART. Its a great place too, the birthplace of American Independence. He comes over with his wife and two kids and has seen Arsenal play as well. Big Gooners in Philly.
Ironically though I have always followed Philly sports since the early 1980s......irony

Fenway Park is a baseball park near Kenmore Square in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Located at 4 Yawkey Way, it has served as the home ballpark of the Boston Red Sox baseball club since it opened in 1912, and is the oldest Major League Baseball stadium currently in use. It is the only one of the original standards ballparks that is still in use. It is also the oldest venue used by a professional sports team in the United States.
You like to think we have no history...but uh, I dont think you have any stadiums that pull in 40,000 people day in day out that are that old now do ya?

We dont play 162 Baseball matches a season nor do we play 82 NHL games a season.......
And i have seen some of the Baseball arenas empty on ESPN
So its about what you know.....if the PL had more than 4 games a week and the prices were low low low...then yes we would fill the grounds day after day lol
