And didnt cygan win the defender of the year award in france the season before he joined us vince ? Hardly the biggest ringing endorsement ever is it really ?
yep, just like bergkamp won the "donkey of the year" award in italy

But again Bergkamp was an international player that had excelled in an ajax team that were held in much higher esteem than they are now so really it wasnt that much of a risk signing him
i know augie, i wasn't serious on the comparison. i do think though(or better, hope), that this guy will be a member of the squad, i don't think wenger is considering him as the assured partner of vermaelen. i guess he'll just be there with a new signing and djourou fighting for that position.

It's true, but Koscielny is better. He's younger and he can still improve. Cygan came at Arsenal only to play when no one is fit (a bit like Silvestre). I reckon Kos can play full back aswell, he's quite quick.

according to football manager (yeah, i know  but they usually get the facts straight) he can play at full back or even defensive midfield.

he probably has good technique then, a bit like alex song and vermaelen.

no no mate, his position info is exactly like vermaelen's. he's a central defender, that can do a job as a fullback or defensive midfielder if necessary. but he is a central back, exactly like vermaelen.

he seems to be the same style of defender of vermaelen, if you get what i mean. good technique, good mentaly, not so good positioning.

i hope he's as good as vermaelen as well :)

Wenger - We will sign a new player soon

By Chris Harris

Arsène Wenger expects to welcome a new defender to Arsenal "quite soon".

The manager has been linked with a number of centre backs this summer as William Gallas, Sol Campbell and Mikael Silvestre all approach the end of their current contracts at Emirates Stadium.

Wenger told Arsenal.com last week that he wanted to announce a new signing before the end of the World Cup but he is staying tight-lipped over the identity of that player amid reports that Lorient defender Laurent Koscielny is close to completing a move to North London.

"Nothing has been done yet but I expect something will be done quite soon on that front, on the defensive front. We will sign a player soon," Wenger told Arsenal.com this week.

"But we do not want to come out with names before we announce it.

"Keep faith in what has always worked well for us and that is to keep it secret as much as we can."
who is he talking about?? :rubchin: :rubchin: :rubchin:
