Oh well heres to Carlos Vela Arsenal's new No.9, goodluck you will need it

The number 9 shirt didnt do Alan Smith any harm. Its not about the number its about the player, all the wearers of 9 you mentioned above werent up to it then only one that had bad luck was Eduardo with is injury
The number 9 hoodoo came from the introduction of squad numbering basically the start of the Prem.
Prior to the Prem Smith (number 9) was fine. Then the squad numbering started and had a repetitive back injury.....it eventually forced him to retire.

You've also forgot Merse of the list!
When DB10 joined he took the 10 shirt from Merse who moved to the dreaded number 9.
Shortly after Merse broke down and revelled to the world about his addictions. Was never quite the same player after re-hab and was then out of favour with Wenger.
Youve got the timings wrong. When Merse had his problems Graham was the manager therefore before Bergkamp joined so Merse was wearing 10 at that time

Not really :x  There is no such thing as luck. If we sign Torres, Eto'o, David Villa, Drogba or Heskey and give him the number 9 the talk of bad luck suddenly would vanish

Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli has admitted he is flattered by reported transfer interest from Arsenal.

The highly-rated 19-year-old is said to be a target of Arsene Wenger's side as well as a number of other European clubs.

Balotelli - who hit the headlines for his spats with former manager Jose Mourinho - insisted he was happy that Rafa Benitez had been installed as Inter manager following his departure from Liverpool.

However, he couldn't hide his delight at being subject to speculation, with former Nerazzurri and Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini also believed to be keen on his services.

"I'm ready for Benitez and I'm happy that he has talked well of me," said the Italy Under-21 international.

"But I'm happy also that Arsenal likes me. Staying at Inter? Now let's see. Roberto Mancini? He gave me my debut in Serie A."

He laughed off suggestions of a city switch to rivals AC, adding: "Go to Milan? Of course not!"

Balotelli's agent has played down suggestions of an impending deal, revealing that Benitez does not want to part company with the front man.

Mino Raiola told Radio Radio tv: "I spoke with Inter, which has a project. I don't think Balotelli is on the market but I don't know if they want (him to) play."

But if we did what if Torres was found out to be a ladyboy, or Eto'o announced he was on the Colombian marching powered, Villa laundering money, Drogbag actually shags dogs and Heskey was.....welll..Emil!

In all seriousness when you look at the players that wore the 9 after they left Arsenal its proof that they werent up to it and nothing to do with luck. Merse was on the slide when he got the 9 and went downwards, Jeffers had a decent (not outstanding) season or 2 before he signed for us but has done nothing since, Reyes was mentally weak and has done fuck all since even though he played for Real Madrid. The only one that has had bad luck is Eduardo with his injury/assault

Mario Balotelli says Arsenal are a 'great team' as uncertainty surrounds striker's Inter Milan future

Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli has welcomed interest from Arsenal - describing the Gunners as a 'great team'.

The troublesome 19-year-old has long been tracked by Arsene Wenger and is also in the sights of Manchester City.

Inter president Massimo Moratti is a huge admirer of a player seen as Italy's great goalscoring hope of the future, but Balotelli is unpopular with supporters of the European champions and got on the wrong side of boss Jose Mourinho last summer.

He hit the headlines for the wrong reasons again this week after picking up a police warning for firing a toy pistol in Milan's Piazza della Repubblica.

The Italy Under 21 striker admitted the episode was stupid during a quickfire exchange with journalists on Tuesday morning before sitting college exams.

And when asked about his future, he said: 'I dont know if I will stay at Inter, we will see.'

'I am happy that I am liked by Arsenal, because they are also a great team. I don't know if there has been contact, you have to ask my agent.'

Asked about City, he pointed out that Mancini had given him his debut in Serie A when the Italian boss was in charge at Inter.

Balotelli is yet to speak to new Inter boss Rafa Benitez about his standing in the team but many supporters would like to see the back of the self-confessed AC Milan fan.

His agent Mini Raiola said: 'I have spoken to Inter. I don't think Balotelli is on the market, but I don't know if they want to let him play.'

++++

Hmmm.... :?

We have Chamakh.....RVP.....Bendtner.....Eduardo.....(and I wonder whether Walcott will end up doing an Henry and moving from the wing to forward) why would we want another striker.....? Think this must just be paper talk!

Signing a whole new starting 11 is more likely than that.

Arsenal sign Koscielny for £8.5m - Trochowski next?
Meanwhile several media sources report that Wenger – still in South Africa commentating for French TV – has his heart set on German midfielder Piotr Trochowski. Though the 26-year-old midfielder hasn't been a regular starter in the German side, he's highly rated by manager Joachim Low particularly for his versatility. Trochowski started his career at Bayern Munich but has spent the last five years at Hamburg, and apparently he's wondering if it's not time he was moving on to pastures new. Wenger is said to be lining up a £13m bid for the Polish-born star with a view to wrapping up the deal in South Africa.
