THE FRANKSAV MUSIC THREAD

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

I hate the fact that "popular" music is lauded as the greatest music in current production when in fact it is far from. Talentless jokes like Lady Gaga are worshipped by the masses when so many quality independent bands are ignored.

That is why I generally hate all music that reaches the charts.

Rap is mostly derivative so I dislike that too - how many times can a rich black guy sing about hardships in the ghetto before it gets old? Then how ridiculous does he look when his next hit is about his excessive lifestyle?

Isn't that what I said?

You just need to say it in an intelligent way - most people who listen to rap probably can't deal with a reasoned argument. Especially if every second word doesn't rhyme!

whilst i agree with you almost totally, lady Gaga, i feel, has given back some pantomime, showmanship and imagination to pop music and she's quite refreshing.

RaM, check out this band. quite possibly my favouritest band ever ever. best live show too:

How can you just rule out Rap and say it is all crap? Eminem's music is some of the best stuff ever and his more serious songs are definitely classed as some of the best songs of all time...

Hard to justify that as he barely even sings.

It's a load of shite. Rap, dance and boybands etc is "music" for people who are not musical and have no musical talent, ie they can't actually play an instrument, and have no concept of what music actually is.
Those who listen to it don't actually like "music" they simply subscribe to what is fed to them by the likes of MTV.

Some very good new stuff being put out by Mammal's ex-singer Ezekiel Ox.

Saw these guys supporting Cog a couple of weeks ago - typical brilliance from Zeke.

People commenting total shite on this thread about rap. It isn't just people talking fast. Hip Hop is where the real genius is. Artists like BlackStarr, Lupe Fiasco, The Roots, Wu-Tang Clan, and other Hip Hop artists are musical talents and that includes the producers that help make this music. I suggest you listen to these artists to gain some clarity, and I'm sure Quartz can help suggest other people also.
