All that way just to see 2 cities. I lived in Glasgow (briefly) and it's nice, but it's just a city, like Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, etc. Not worth the expense or travelling all that way, mate.
- You're going to London (a truely GREAT city) so all the other UK cities don't really compare, although Edinbugh is very nice, and probably second only to London.

Get out and see the countryside. Visit Ben Nevis, which is a cracking walk and very accessible. Go see the Cairngorms or Glencoe. See a Loch - Loch Lomond and Loch Ness are the obvious ones, but there's many many beautiful ones. Go see the west coast, or one of the islands.

Edinbugh's nice, and the castle is ok.... but again, it's only a city. A nice stop off point along the way (as is Glasgow) but they're only the supporting act... the scenery (and the whisky ) is the real star of the show!!

What he says is spot on, day in edinburgh, then head over to the west coast, loch lomond up to Fort Willian(Ben Nevis) via Oban and if you've time upto Inverness via Loch Ness, scenery to die for.

its a good 4 hours to go up Ben Nevis but its not a hard climb, paths all the way

if you do loads of football and boxing you'll be just fine. just had a look on hostelworld.com for places to stay in aberdeen (10 minutes from stonehaven where dunnottar castle is) and hillhead came up, which is my old university accommodation

. shame you cant stay during term time! there's not really much to see in aberdeen but its easy enough to get to from edinburgh/glasgow and inverness and a shitload of hills and stuff isnt far away either.

cheers, davey! yeah, i did find a few hostels in aberdeen in the web too, i guess it won't be a problem. i'll surely stay there on the day i visit dunottar.

i guess that makes my trip then, first edinburgh and then (not necessarily in this order) stonehaven and dunottar, ben nevis, loch ness and glancoe. that with a lot of whisky in my head and i'm sure i'll never forget about scotland

In Edinburgh you can see a lot in a day.

The Castle - large castle, lots to see.

The Whisky Museum/Tour (about 50 metres from the castle). Make this last thing you see, because you get to drink nice amount of Whisky at the end!

I would make sure I pre-booked a table at this restaurant, it is world famous and you have to book to eat there.

cheers quartz!!! everything you described seem unmissable, i'm using that as a starter to my edinburgh trip schedule. i looked at the restaurant you mentioned - the place looks amazing, and if the number by the name of the meals is the price in pounds, then it's a lot more affordable than i would think a place like that is. i'll deffo book a table there, some of those meals sound very tasty

actually, considering the way i love british ales (and oirish), i guess i'll be pretty pissed the whole time i'm in the uk and ireland, mate

would you recommend anywhere else other than dublin and galway, db10? i only have a few days to spend in oirland as well (in between arsenal matches )

They are the best two cities in Oireland especially for night life, but there are so many good places to go outside of those two. Cork and Kerry are lovely too.

Try and spend an afternoon getting slowly drunk in a proper old Oirish pub (NOT a themed Oirish one) on a rainy winters day. Big fire, bowls of hot stew, lovely beer, good craic... ahhhhh... bliss....

Then that night get yo ass into the clubs for the bitches!

Let me know when you are in Dublin and we'll meet up for a pint or two!

will surely do, mate. i won't go in the winter, it will be somewhere in april (in between arsenal matches) but i'll let you know when i'll be over there. being a stupid tourist, i'll need to be told which is a modern themed irish pub and which is the real deal

i won't have enough time to visit all the towns you mention, so i'll probably spend a couple of days in dublin and then galway or somewhere else. anyway, i'll probably be so drunk that i won't really remember which city it is, so as long as it has good pubs and bitter irish stout, i'm cool!
