As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Agreed 100%.
Disagree 100%!
Retiring numbers is silly.
What happens after the number is retired? - is that the end of it... do we only get to see it in old footage? or gathering dust in a glass case at the museum?? - and how exactly is that showing respect??
I WANT to see the famous number 10 shirt on the football pitch where it belongs!... creating history! not banished from the football field forever.
Thanks to Dennis, the famous number 10 shirt now carries extra weight and importance - instead of banning future players from wearing it, let them try and live up to the great man. Hell, one day we might have another great number 10, and then the wealth of history and importance of the number will be even more impressive.
In any case, I'd imagine most kids in Argentina dream of pulling on the number 10 shirt for their country because it means so, so much. Why ban them from that possibility??
Football moves on, and although I'm all for respecting our history, I think we should be embracing our future just as much. In other words, the number 10 shirt stays!
At the risk of being associated with this tennis poof I actually agree with every word of it, spot on g88ner. As much as i love Bergkamp and feel very honoured to have watched a player like that play for Arsenal retiring his number is plain stupid
Thanks Flash - I know it must have taken a lot of courage for you to agree with me on a public forum
dont listen to those nasty men g88ner with their silly ideas of retiring numbers
