Of course what that means is that we will wait to sell cesc and then by the time we sell him there will be no quality players left to replace him   :banghead:
Alternatively, we keep Cesc thus negating the need for an inferior player like Gourcuff. 8)

That is indeed a novel and pleasing approach which means of course that it wont happen :( The only way we keep cesc is if barca cant afford him
Just out of curiousity ihh how many players do you feel are available to buy that are not inferior to cesc ? Imo anybody we buy either this summer or next will be inferior to our capt

But Hlebby - Dont you think we need a a quality player to play alongside Cesc? Dont you think that might something to do with him wanting to leave. Cesc aint stupid like all of us, he does realise that the rest of the midfield he plays with is beyond shit!

JUST READ THIS from the paper adding to the claims that Wenger IS NOT adding to the midfield. This is a big gamble as when he Cesc goes next season were going to be fucked!
I am really starting to get annoyed with Wenger i think he is blinded and its only us fans who suffer.

Arsene Wenger has ruled out a move for Bordeaux playmaker Yoann Gourcuff.

The Arsenal boss admits he is an admirer of the 23-year-old, who has been tipped to replace Barcelona target Cesc Fabregas at the Emirates Stadium.

However, Wenger says he will leave Lyon and Bayern Munich to scrap it out for a player who Bordeaux are reluctant to let go for less than his £22million release clause.

'We are not interested (in Gourcuff) and we have never contacted (Bordeaux),' said Wenger.
'He's a player I like a lot, but we are sufficiently covered in midfield.'

Lyon seems his most likely destination, but the French giants rate him at about half of Bordeaux's asking price and have lined up other targets, such as Santos midfielder Paulo Henrique Ganso, who is being tracked by both Manchester clubs.

All sorts of speculation about shay givens future at man shitty as rumours suggest that hart has been told he will be number 1 next season - if given was fit for the start of the season then I will say yet again that we should be buying him and def ahead of the likes of schwarzer

yes but Given might cost that extra 1-2 Mil especialy as he is a world class keeper.
The most important thing is not the quality but the price.... :-P

What we should do is put a bid in for Hart..force Citehs hand and if they assure Hart he will be their number 1 then we can pick up a disillusioned Given on the cheap....

If this quote attributed to Wenger is true, it looks like we won't be getting any midfielders in. One more season of Diaby-Denilson-Eboue... Yay

Wenger snubs Barca's offer of Fab talks - Exclusive

By John Cross

Arsene Wenger last night snubbed Barcelona’s attempts to set up a World Cup summit over Cesc Fabregas.

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell flew into South Africa hoping to meet with Wenger and Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis before last night’s World Cup final.

But Mirror Sport can reveal that Wenger and Gazidis refused to meet with Barcelona this weekend - and have reiterated their message that Fabregas is not for sale at any price.

It is a hammer blow to Barcelona’s attempts to sign Fabregas and Arsenal will not back down on the issue, having already turned down an offer of £30m.

I agree. There are few, bar probably the pair already at Barca. However, that's even more reason not to sell him when we don't have to. And we don't have to. 8)

Yes, I think we and Cesc do. But like a lot of gooners, I think there are other positions where we need to strengthen which are more of a priority than attacking midfield.

fucking amazing how peoples attitudes have changed since the start of this thread!!
the point was that we had to ADD to cesc staying to keep him happy but now its all about just keeping cesc, sure thats all the board ever planned to do this summer anyway
im not gonna be happy if we dont add a player of ozil or gourcuffs quality to this squad, let alone one of them to REPLACE cesc
i know it wont happen but thats what we need, this squad wernt good enough with cesc having the season of his life last year so it aint gonna be good enough next year

every year we get the whole,2/3 QUALITY & EXPERIANCED signings yet end up in a summer long battle to just keep someone like its some kinda victory

I think the "we dont have to sell him" statement is debatable hlebby - my position on retaining cesc has almost done a full turnaround in that if cesc really really wants to go then we should flog him for a reasonable price cos right now retaining an unhappy player will not be a positive result for us :(
