As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Also, the other thread about his "it's for Arsenal" quote? What he actually said was;
"I am really proud to have been an Arsenal player."
Past tense. It was a goodbye to us.
Agreed and couldnt blame him for wanting to go
Me too - cannot blame him in the slightest. He has been loyal longer than most would have. At some point he must have just looked at Eboue and Diaby and Denilson and Almunia and Bendtner and thought; "Is this as good as it gets?"
I hate the fact he will go but I'm resigned to it. This is a real crossroads for us. How do we attract great players in the future? Hey - come and watch Benny miss from 5 yards. Regularly. Hey - come and watch Eboue run aimlessly down the wing and then lose possession or piss the ball away into row 56, but hey, he's a funny guy, a cult figure, we all love him... fuck me I feel bitter this morning...
Will the last truly great player to leave Arsenal please turn off the light...

Always makes me laugh how people think Eboue is a 'legend' because he is funny How funny will he be if Cesc goes and this hilarious fuckwit is playing regular again???? Cesc will go if we are super lucky it will be next season and good luck to him just wish the club (and many of the supporters these days) had the same ambitions as he does

And I forgot to mention the hilarious fuckwits diving and over acting rubbish too... Flash, I am now officially depressed...
None the less, I agree with the basic point. Why stay here? He has served us well for a long time and credit to him for that but he wants to play in arguably the best club in the world. He has long been honest that one day he would return there and he now feels this is the time
Had we been more successful or it been clear that some real quality was coming in, we might have held it off for longer but why keep scrapping for 3rd place rather then fight for titles?
Barca are no worse than any other club, its the football food chain. Bordeaux could level similar claims to us as we do Barca over our nabbing of their best player Chamakh on a free do you think he had NO contact with Arsenal or Wenger before he allowed his contract to run out? If you think we are totally innocent you need to take you head out of your arse(nal)
We are in, at best, the second tier of European football so our best players will be bought and we will buy from the third tier and so on. If we showed ambition to get into the first tier Cesc could have been persuaded to stay? Maybe......
What are we supposed to think now? Papers quote him talking about Arsenal in the past tense, Wenger not in the market for offensive players?
Really are times when I wished I supported a team from the Unibond Northern League. None of this bollocks. If we lose Cesc and no replacement is bought.....You only have to look again at the impact our Captain made in the WORLD CUP FINAL. He is world class. Just want it sorted
'I am really proud to have been an Arsenal player. It is for all of them. They deserve it and they have a world champion at the club. 'I am an Arsenal player and I am really proud to be able to give this trophy to all the fans.'
Fabregas also told how Arsenal manager Wenger sent him a text just after the win over Holland.
He added: 'I have had lots of texts and messages. My phone is full. I had a text from Arsene Wenger. He said 'Congratulations, you deserve it'.
'I replied 'Thank you very much' and told him this is for the whole of Arsenal Football Club, who have helped me get where I am today.'

The Mirror qouted him as "I am really proud to have been an Arsenal player."
What he actually said was: 'I am an Arsenal player and proud to be.'
This isnt nothing new though, is it? We had it with Vieira, Henry, Cole, Hleb etc. At the end of the day the fans suffer as a result and little weasle *word censored* like Graham Hunter have a full bank account and sips his champagne on his corporate flight.

Cesc said 'have been' first and then quickly changed it supposedly.
There's no way Arsenal will sell Cesc this summer, it would make Wenger look too big a mug after saying what he's said. However, it's nailed on that he will leave after this coming season, probably after getting a final sweetener of a couple of million for his last season like Henry got. It's a farce. The guy has been fantastic for Arsenal but wants to leave, there is no point in keeping him because he DOES NOT want to play for Arsenal. He'll still do a decent job for us next season cause that's the guy he is but he won't be 100% committed, you can't be when you don't really want to be somewhere.
Arsenal football club are terrified of losing him because it shows us up for what we are.......wannabe's, a club with what they purport to be ambition but realistically they are clinging to the hope that in the next 10 years other clubs will fall BACK to where we are because of their financial state. It's hard to accept as an Arsenal fan but what else can we do?

He said both, but he talks about beign at Arsenal twice and having been at Arsenal once, so we win 2-1.
Still don't think he'll leave, all looks like a lot of nonsense to me.
The conduct of the Barca players and their club has been poor throughout though. The constant talking, the accusations that WE are holding them to ransom, the continued bollocks and disrespect for us. Thats my problem with the deal. I think they've fucked themselves up by not handling this correctly.
Mourhinio was right all along, they really are a club with no class.
