Could a strong finish stop Arsene splashing the cash? (17/4)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Could a strong finish stop Arsene splashing the cash? (17/4)

Post by gooner.ed »

usual thread starter... surely arsene (despite his public statements) would not be fooled by a decent run-in, however much we might enjoy it. some surgery is needed on the squad... i think we all agree on that. can think of half a dozen players who should be replaced...

I think AW has already decided not to make any significant signings this summer. He has said as much, and when he has said in the past that he doesn't intend to sign anyone, he has stuck to his word. The only thing that would force his hand would be if any key players leave and have to be replaced.

I fear that Arsene will do just that (delude himself that the squad is strong enough) and hence not strengthen in the off season. Unfortunately AW has always been a reactive manager and only makes changes when they are forced on him ie. Cole in for Silvinhio, substitutes only after 70 mins etc. I hate to say it but a strong finish this season could lead to a worse performance next season, perhaps finishing outside the top 4 will make AW get off his arse and do somethin!
