"In Defence of Theo" by Alan Blake.

I agree.

As a striker he can zip away from the centre backs and score.

As a winger he is not playing his natural game.

Not so sure. His finishing has been pretty awful over the last couple of seasons. But then he hasn't played in that role regularly so I wouldn't write him off there just yet. As a winger he is worse than useless.

he is not a natural finisher so i dont see how people think he should be a striker, if he wasnt english people wouldnt have put up with his inconsistency for so long.

Next season will finally lay the Theo myth to rest, he is not premiership class, neither technically or intellectually.
Maybe had he been loaned straight back to southampton following his signing??????? then again nah! he would still be shit.

people put up with it cos he cost us so much dosh.

if he had come through our youth system, then he'd have been loaned to QPR then sold after a year.

This seems pretty fair comment to me.

Basically it's up to Theo to raise his game, as the current one is not enough.

People forget he's only 20. Plenty of tournaments still ahead for him to take part in!

So what has Theo ever done for us?

I realise I'm just a 'Voice in the Wilderness' but I'm going out on a limb to support Theo. I think he was damnably treated by F*C*.

To those who say he isn't a goalscorer I point out Cardiff 2006, Wigan 2010, Barcelona 2010 and quite a few more - and I haven't even mentioned Croatia (yep, England) - OK, I have now!

As a winger, fewer examples admittedly, but with a decent centre-forward (ie NOT Bendtner) Theo would have racked up many more assists, which in turn would have boosted his confidence. Liverpool away Champions League assist for Adebayor wasn't that bad.

Poor Theo...if he stays at Arsenal his name will be on my replica shirt again as a vote of confidence.

Wasn't too bothered by Theo missing the world cup - it may actually do him some good in terms of club performances, but nothing that Lennon produced against the USA other than a simple through ball to Hesky was effective at all, poor crossing not getting past his marker, lack of picking a player out, despite being given absolutely acres of space.

If theo was given that amount of time and room I would expect an awful lot more end product.

As an Arsenal supporter I too am glad that Theo did not go to the world cup, although I know he would have been very dis-appointed .

But he is now fresh for us bext year, and un-injured :) :)

Capello made a mistake not taking him, as an impact sub he can change the pace of the game, I love it when he comes on, I always sense an air of excitement, with the fans and the players

I hope he carries on improving this next season...if he does he will be one of our best assets

It's the anticipation that he may finally do something that keeps us all excited

When I found out Theo wasnt picked for England I had about 2 or 3 seconds of disappointment, and then a huge sigh of relief knowing that England would be a HUGE flop. At least now he cant be lumped in with the sorry excuse for a football team that seemed to spend more time complaining about the lack of table football and beers, than actually doing their job.

Thank God we didn't make an offer for Villa a year ago he would have "killed" Walcott last season and what a season he had
