"If Arsenal demands a transfer fee for a 38-year-old reserve goalkeeper, I might as well stay," he said.

The story re Canizares leaving Valencia has the look of truth about it, given that the Valencia Vice Pres is quoted as saying as much - see http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528, ... 83,00.html.
He'd be a perfectly good short-term replacement for Lehmann but he's Euro Cup tied, so we'd be stuck with Almunia and Fabianski in Champs' League for as long as we're still in (which might not be that long if we get the wrong draw tomorrow). And, just like Lehmann, in the longer term, he's not going to be the answer.
There's also the possibility of Canizares, who I think still gets regular Spain call-ups, being second fiddle to a fellow Spaniard who has never got close to the Spanish squad. Is that a formula for harmony?
I've got a better idea: put Lehmann back in for the rest of this season and sign a top keeper in the summer, once we have as free a hand as possible in choosing a truly worthy successor (and no, not bleedin Robert Green). Or have I (and others on this forum) suggested this before???
