Good Old Arsenal has always been sung when things aren't going our way. My one "claim to fame" is that I started singing it at WHL when we were 1-0 down in the League Semi Final replay in 87, everyone else joined in and the rest is history....! I think whatever we eventually agree on has to be a bit more upbeat, and a bit more tuneful. I like what Liverpool have done with "The Fields of Athenry" so how about someone changing the words to "Danny Boy"? "....the arse, the arse are calling....."

Well why dont we get *GOOD OLD ARSENAL* going agen week in and week out, BEFORE AND AFTER KICKOFF, when we are 1 or 2 goals down.
The main reason we won the game yestoday was because all the fans were behind the players and singing till the end....
GOOD OLD ARSENAL, WERE PROUD TO SAY THAT NAME, WHILST WE SING THIS SONG WE'LL WIN THE GAME.

It doesn"t matter what song we choose there are just too many fans who will not sing. When the Kop sing YNWA everyone joins in.On saturday the singing section started singing"Over and over and over again said Jesus said Paddy i"ll sing it so well i think i get up and i"ll sing it again so Paddy got up and he sang it again over and over and over again" Did the rest of the ground join in ? NO That is a song we always sang at away games in the 70s and 80s.Why dont fans sing it now?
It would also help if that awful PA announcer would shut up and play some classic records which the fans could sing along to instead of listening to his mindless gibberish. My choice would be "The Wonder of you" by Elvis

Donaldo - Well done for singing the old favourite "paddy" song! But don't take it personnally if it wasn't instantly adopted. As you said yourself, it is 20-30 years since this was regularly sung and then (from memory) only at away games, and only by gooners sitting at away games (& remember, this was in the days of terrace). So it was probably sung regularly by a core of maybe a few hundred fans (maybe less) - many of whom will have long given up going on a regular basis. But it was great fun at the time so no reason to give up on it this time around! Certainly a better reason to stand up than hating the spuds!!!
I agree MK Gould but it does my head in when a song dies halfway though-the Freedie song is a case in point. The thing about the "Paddy" song is it is unique to Arsenal and that is the type of song we are looking for.A song no other teams fans sing.
Now i know i"m showing my age but what about bringing back some other favourites from the 60s and 70s. What about "Knees up mother brown" "When your smiling" and "Maybe it because i"m a Londoner".And can someone tell me or has memory been playing tricks in the late sixties did Arsenal fans sing "My old man said follow the van and don"t dilley dally on the way"I"m sure they did.
I"ll keeping singing for the Gooners till they come to take me away

"My old man said follow the spurs, I said f*ck off b*ll*cks your a c*nt.....". Not one for the family enclosure I think!!!
I agree re-paddy song. Its pure Arsenal. I'm sure no-one else sings it. It has the added benefit of forcing some of you lot to sit down!
Am I only one who has fond memories of "la, la, la, lalalala, lalalala, Arsenal...." to the tune of Hey Jude?
When we played against Spuds in the CC semi I started singing "is that all you take away", but I think the irony (given the argument about ticket allocation) was lost on some as no-one joined in!! Being in my late 40's I should probably know better. I was redeemed in the eyes of my kids on Saturday when I started a chorus of "by far the greatest team" from the family enclosure, which ended up spreading round the ground!! There's life in the old dog yet....

at grounds where there is an anthem that the whole crowd joins in, it is generally triggered initially before kick off by the playing of said record over the PA. so everyone joins in. and then the crowd will sing it off their own backs later in the game. so there needs to be a policy. A record has to be chosen, then played just before the players come out. reaching its climax as the cue for the players to enter the field. as to what that record is - well that's another debate. but it has to be something a bit stirring and not an existing arsenal tune. It was interesting that when the maidstone gooners started the 'we're on our way' chant, they took it from a rodgers & hammerstein musical - the same source as 'you'll never walk alone'. and it is a good tune, but doesn't have the stirring and goosebump inducing qualities of YNWA, and we need something similar. i am going to start a new thread in a moment to see if people can come up with an appropriate song that we don't use at the moment. if redaction can get the club to agree, we can have it played before every game next season and in time people will join in and it will become arsenal's anthem and a stirring prelude to any home match.
