Hill-Wood statement: Hands off Arsenal

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Hill-Wood statement: Hands off Arsenal

Post by lisa_gooner »

This is very encouraging to see:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/footbal ... 566789.stm

Peter Hill-Wood said "We would be horrified to see ownership of the club go across the Atlantic."

Hill-Wood claims that he and three of the club's major shareholders - Fiszman, Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith and the Carr family - have "no intention of selling".

He added: "These people love Arsenal, they are independently wealthy and do not need the money. Having a few extra million pounds in the bank is of no interest to them.

"We're here for Arsenal football club, not to make a few bob. The club has been run for the benefit of supporters, staff and players."

I think it's great that PHW has come out and said this. However, I can't see Kroenke, being American, settling for just owning a piece. I think he'll want to have it all and he would only have to convince Fiszman to sell to own around 36%. Fiszman is the key to this, if he sells then Kroenke will be able to take over.

Was thinking it was great until I read the Evening Standard piece about Kroenke yesterday.

We could do worse and need to be realistic here. Football is changing, maybe for the worse but we have to decide if we stand by our principals, possibly cutting off our nose to spite our face, or embrace it and continue competing at the top level.

The 3 key things I took from that ES piece was that SK doesn't interfere, wants success and is not afraid to splash the cash when required.

Read the same article and started to think it may not be all bad. David dein leaving is a big surprise and I hope we have not seen the last of him.
