who is this? - This must be the talent Wenger doesn't want to ruin even though it'll be 10years before he gets regular football hahahahahaha

[quote]After a fascinating chat, I was invited to watch the U16s and U13s train on the pristine artificial pitches outside.

One young lad immediately caught the eye, holding off a challenge from a boy twice his size before effortlessly pirouetting with the ball at his feet to beat his marker. “He’s going to be a special player,â€

Great article, and is another of example of the great job Wenger and his team do in developing young talent, and English talent at that - we all have issues with the current squad, but our club is going to be in a good position in future years. Players that excite is now like Wilshire have come through this system, so i dont see why it should be mocked.

Re the neverland comment above, your not seriously relating Jacko to Wenger are you?

Anyway, great read 8)

its a joke mate! It just seems Wenger likes kids more than he does real match winners that can win us trophys.

Good point though about the future. However think back to 2005/6 all the youth team since then have done great eh.

We have had a lot of players through our academy, but none have really been good enough to make their mark on the first team, but they have had premiership careers elsewhere (Muamba, Bentley etc).

I think the current crop are a bit different though, Gibbs will be first choice left back by the end of the season and hopefully Wilshire can get a lot of game time as well. Lansbury might have to go out on loan again, but i think he is another one that could push in the future.

I agree with Bendtners Drinking Buddy, its good to see that Arsenal and Wenger are really into helping develop kids , especially the english ones, to become technically better players, and in investing time and money into developing them.

Its obviously frutstrating for us at times, but I think the emergance of Wilshire and Gibbs of recent times have shown that the quality is finally coming to the top. Exciting times.

BDM - I agree with all of that but to be honest I have lost any faith and trust in Wenger. I feel he doesn’t see the importance of making sure we have English players in the first 11. Players like Gibbs, Wilshire and Lansbury are ones for the future but will Wenger play them enough? Other Managers in the prem such as the red faced Manc would push such players and put them ahead of the queue in order to develop a strong English fighting spirit.
I honestly think the fact a youth player is English and local means it will improve his determination and general passion to play. This is something Wenger does not see or understand.
So regardless of the English youth players we have coming through I don’t think they would get as good as chance as they would say Liverpool where having local youth players is so important.
I know that given the chance some of our English youth team would do a much better job than Diaby, Denilson ect. And we would get behind these players with great pride and love!
Until Wenger does something good and makes drastic changes I will carry on seeing him as *word censored* – sorry if that pisses anyone off!

I am really sorry, but it pisses me off. I am not doubting your love for the club, but surely you see that nationality is irrelevant? I'd rather have a team full of RVP style players than Wayne 'the granny fucker' Rooney. Being able to play with passion and pride doesn't mean being English surely?!

I can understand you wanting to see players of the ilk of Ray Parlour et al comming through, as the local bond can be important. However, the game has changed so much that if a player truely loves the club, that has to be more important than him coming from Highbury Hill...

I'd like to see Lansbury, Wilshire and Simpson get a chance with Arsenal next season rather than being sent out on loan.

If we can give game time to the like of Vela and Silvestre then we can certainly find space for the others!

True - but isn't a player who was born in North London (or England or.....even, Ireland) and came up through the ranks more likely to truly love the club than someone who just came here for the chance to work with Wenger or play Champions League football?

The problem now is the squad size limitation. Let's say we decided to do that but then actually decided we ant to buy some real quality players to add to the team. There wouldn't be room legally for everyone as things stand.
