Next 2 signing are key

Post by lowerwest »

For us to have a decent go this season we need 2 signings a new goalkeeper and an experienced centre half.

Personally i would stand having someone like Schwarzer who is obviously short term if we could get Mertesacker or someone of that quality ie Tasci,Zapata.

4 centre halfs have left and 1 has come in so the maths are clear.

If we have to rely on Fabianksi and Kosielny all season we will finish outside the top 4 its as simple as that.

3 Defenders have left and one is likely to be joining Newcastle. With Nordviet stepping up this year. We have 4 but I agree we need another defender.

Same with the GK situation.

Problem is does Wenger.

Anyone think that judging from pre-season so far Nordtveit is more likely to be used as a right back? At least temporarily? We dont really have much cover there.

Was searching around for that quote from Wenger from earlier in the summer where he said something along the lines of - look what i've done by the time the emirates cup comes around and judge me then - but i cant find it. But I'll judge anyway. :banghead:

From an already weak squad, what he's done is get rid of 3 centre backs and signed one, and sold Eduardo and got Chamakh, so unless between now and saturday he addresses the glaring deficiencies in our first 11, never mind fucking squad he has FAILED.....yet again.

Don't hold your breath for him to either, coz I'm not.

So just to summarise...

OUT: Eduardo, Campbell, Gallas, Silvestre, Merida

IN: Chamakh, Koscielny

Right, so we're either three players short, or we were unneccesarily paying three additional players' wages last season.

Neither is encouraging.

all the above coupled with the fact we were weak defensively last season is a massive worry

But I also forgot

OUT: Senderos.

That's six players leaving. And with the goalkeeper situation, it should be at least seven.

Crazy to think that you can ship out six/seven of the most useless players, and yet Eboue, Denilson and Diaby aren't amongst them. These really are depressing times.

What about players stepping up?

The first two names are like-for-likes except for when you get to Gallas.
Norveit fills that gap.

Silvestre? agreed we need one extra defender but Wenger was waiting on Sol's decision first. If Sol stayed we had enough but now it looks likely that sol's going expect another transfer.

And Merida. Well he played alot!
A number of researves can fill that role. Lansbury, Wilshere & JET.

More likely to be around March/April 2011 if previous years are anything to go by. Robin, Theo & Rosicky returning from their annual 6 months out will be just like new signings dont you know

wenger could solve this right now by buying schwarzer and mertesacker for example for around 15m. theres that much negativity about its really throughly depressing...so much so that i dont want this season to start. 1)are we saying the club are refusing to make the money available for these signings. 2)or would mr wenger really gamble with his job and stick to his guns out of principle.
