I'll give you a clue
It's big and round (technically oval) and cost £390M to build.

As for the rest ask USmartin. He has a theory on this sort of thing.

Its obvious to us all that a keeper and a center back should be number 1 priority, Wenger has clearly stated that Almunia is not certain number 1 next season and his position is up for grabs, news stories flying around that he's in talks with other clubs and were in talks with other keepers, good sign.

Djourou, Vermuelen, Koscielny, Nordviet quite clearly isnt enough, i like Djourou alot, its going to be Kos first season, Tommy V is immense, Nordviet is untryed at premier league level although has bundesliga experience. It would be great to see another center back come in and make it 5, possibly a big fucker like Mertersacker would fit the bill, 2 agile and clever defenders (Verm and Kos) and 2 big strong (Djourou and ??) Nordviett could then be eased in to the premier league.

Midfield wise? Massive abundance of talent, for me the top bracket of players would be Arshavin, Fabregas, Song, Nasri. Then the likes of Rosicky, Diaby, Wilshire, Walcott. Then.. Denilson and poor old Ramsey. The second bracket of players could make a HUGE difference next season if they perform to the standard that they are capable of playing at. At a push i'd like to see a cover for Song but wouldnt be too gutted to see Eastmond/Frimpong pushed up and given the chance (Eastmond looked very accomplished last season)

No strikers required for me, Chamakh, Van Persie, Vela, Bendtner and possibly Jay-Emmanuel Thomas (Although a loan deal will probably be struck for him)

So it has nothing to do with changing plans concerning Highbury?

Again we could have sold Highbury for an immediate profit of 65-70 by most accounts at no cost whatsoever to the club and used those proceeds to pay off several years of stadium loan repayments which surely would have meant more money could be invested in the football team over the past five years including from 2005 to 2007 and we would be several years closer to being debt-free. Which is the reason we are not investing more the football team - the continued existance of the original stadium loan debt I mean - according to some.

Instead by opting to borrow 110 million to re-develop Highbury they eliminated those stadium loan repayments for four years and forced us to find other resources (like profits from key players sales which then were used for debt repayment instead of re-invested in the football team again) and put the club 110 million pounds deeper into debt which also could justify decreasing investment in the football team for many. And because we had to pay that 110 Million back in full in 2010 not only was our debt burden significantly larger but it harder to manage because of time constraints on the loan for Highbury's re-development.

Basically we owed much more money, owed much more of it muich sooner, and had much less of it to pay down our original debt or even this newer debt with as a result of not selling Highbury. It was a financial six-pointer that Arsenal Football Club lost badly but Arsenal shareholders, especially the major shareholders - not so much. They did just about okay as the records of the share price the past five years show.

Or is all this largely coincidental or something...

Apologies Boomer :barscarf: That seems directed at you personally and its not really though I don't blame you for thinking otherwise. Though I did write it after seeing that post - I was just sort of making the points you rightly suggested I would make here.

But I wasn't calling you out there - though really the new stadium isn't really why we're in this fix to me :banghead: :banghead:

Have't read all this thread so forgive me if I'm repeating something already said but I think the funniest thing about this is that someone actually believes there will be two more signings.............

We haven't conceded a goal yet so we clearly don't need a new GK or any sort of defensive cover. Roll on the new season! :barscarf:

You know what really pisses me off, is that so far relatively speaking the ManUre or the Chav's haven't really signed anyone of note.

If we made a couple more quality acquisitions to strengthen the obvious frailties in the side I think we really could have a genuine shot at the title.

Absolutely - same goes for last and certainly 08, and even 09 - if we kept one of Flamini/Gilberto/Diarra we'd have made a run at it.

That's the proof of our failings in this regard. Both United and Chelsea have been less than super - except against us - since the end of the 07 season and have been vulneribel - except against us - throughout the last three seasons really. Three years of wasted opportunity fading into a fourth by the look of it. Two certainly if you want to say 08 we really were much better(i'm not that sure myself)
