David O Leary

Probably because he was in charge of a dirtier-than-usual Leeds team (which is saying something) that cost us the title in May 1999. And the fact that he ran around the pitch at the end as if he'd just won the fucking World Cup.

In my eyes, O' Leary = *word censored*. I'm sure many others disagree, however.

I don't think the 722 appearance record will ever be broken.

Because players are now coming from all corners (and gutters) of the world, there's simply less loyalty involved.

There's not even been any testimonials recently (Bergkamp in 2006 and Keown in 2004 were the most recent, I believe), so there's no chance of smashing the 722 barrier.

I remember back in the late 90's / early 00's, testimonials seemed a monthly occurance. Smith, Dixon, Seaman, Adams (twice!), Merson and Winterburn all had them around that time.

I think the closest we have now is RVP. He'd need to remain until 2014, which isn't entirely out of the question, but I wouldn't bank on it.

Could do with someone of his calm authority at the back these days. Great reader of the game in his day.

HOWEVER...

He has since become a tw*t and never has a good word to say about us.

That was my first game @ The Arsenal. I remember it clearly, sitting in the East Stand. Start of a lifelong obsession. :barscarf:

As a player an all time great dont let anyone tell you otherwise. But something happened once he left.Maybe he was promised a coaching job once he retired that never materialised because for some reason he had a hatred towards the club. The worst moment being him celebrating on the pitch after his Leeds team had beaten us to hand the title to their bitterest rivals. You just dont play for a club for 18 years and who gave you two testimonials and dance on the pitch when that club loses the title.Since that night to most Gooners he is a *word censored*

David Oleary is an Arsenal great :barscarf:

When interviewed before our last F A Cup semi final win over the scum
he told the interviewer "I'm a gooner i hope we smash em"
I think he was still Leeds boss at the time

Loved him when he played for us.... but now fucking hate the *word censored* as he tarnished his whole Arsenal reputation when he managed Leeds.

O' Leary is an Arsenal Legend - end off....anyone who watched Arsenal through the 70s, 80s and 90s would know this

but as a manager - it's a different story

while i can see his 10 years testamonial,he'd have to be here till 3014 to play 700 games[/i]
