fuck off wenger...
u silly old fool.[/quote]
Arsene Wenger delivered a worrying message for Arsenal fans after claiming he does not need to make any more signings to launch a title challenge.
The Arsenal boss is under pressure from fed-up supporters who are anxious for big-money signings to strengthen the squad for next season’s Premier League campaign after finishing 11 points adrift last term. But Wenger says they are already strong enough to compete with Chelsea, Manchester United and big-spending Manchester City.
He is looking to make new signings with Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer and Werder Bremen’s Germany World Cup defender Per Mertesacker top of his short list.
But Wenger has resisted making a big splash as he has only spent £8million on French defender Laurent Koscielny while striker Marouane Chamakh arrived on a free transfer from Bordeaux

Wenger said: “Do I think we have a team to play at the top? Looking at the players we have, yes.
“Financial consideration does not come into it. I judge whether the players are good enough in the championship.
“It is whether the clubs have better players or lesser players and we can compete with the players we have.
“You look at our squad and we have two internationals in every Âposition.
“We have to remind ourselves we decided to go with a very young team three or four years ago and we have developed this team. I believe that two years ago we were quite far but last year in April we were two points away from the top.
“Normally we should be closer again because that development is part of a young team.
“I know that in England when you do not win the championship it’s always about buying but what is important is that we improve Âindividually and as a team because we are a very young team.
“We are not a team that is at the end of a cycle, we are at the start of a cycle. So our future will be decided not by who we buy or need but as well by how much we improve.â€

lets be fair here for one minute,
wenger can hardly come out and say the players he has are shit and will no way make the top 6 nevermind top 4,
we as gooners and football fans are nearly all in agreement on the fact that we need a better keeper and a proven centre half and if we get these 2 in the next week or so then i think we will have a chance of glory this season but if we dont then i fear wengers words will come back to haunt him and we might be seeing his last season in charge of our club.

I understand what you are saying rebs but it is at the point now that I would rather he say nothing and send pat rice out to do these press conferences

Really at this stage I believe that we are wasting/writing off another season as wenger continues to believe in shite players that he already has and continues to bring in players that are no better than average

Augie, Our players are not shite. A team full of shite players does not finish in the top half of the English premier league. Whether or not you think they have the potential to improve enough to challenge for trophies is another matter, but the only people who can really assess these players' potential are the staff that see them every day.augie wrote:REBEL GOONER wrote:lets be fair here for one minute,

I also feel that for the large part this isnt just empty words from wenger cos clearly he does believe that they are that good otherwise why would he have given so many of them bumper long term contracts ?

And there is still business to be done over the next two weeks.

He does say he normally does business at the start or the end of the transfer window.
He needs to do business because we ain't going no where........big pressure on AW this season. Forget what the BOD think, if the crowd turn then he is out.
The thought of either Flappy or Alumunia is goal does my head in.

In some regards wenger is one of the luckiest managers around.....can you imagine the state of panic if we had a very tough start to our league campaign and we going into it with a squad like we now have ?
I hate the fact that he is willing to wait 3 weeks into the season before he finishes his transfer business cos with a team like ours a good start is imperative
