He looks like a nutter, I'ld take him.

Tbh I still think the Keeping situation is the most important. Back up CB is needed, but we're not going to sign a top quality one having spent 10 mil on the new fella.

Plus he's 29, good bit of experience

Yes, but if Wenger sees Koscielny as a first teamer, then we might struggle to sign a centre back of proven quality who is willing to sit on the bench :?

That's why I'm not convinced about the Mertesacker rumours, whereas this Spahić chap seems to be more like what I expected.

And if wenger see's koscielny as first choice then the team will suffer - why can wenger not see that picking a team is about partnerships and koscielny and tv5 are way too similar ? :roll: I am beginning to think that it was comolli or DD that was signing the players for wenger in the past cos it seems that there is no thought process into any of his signings nowadays both in terms of team chemistry and in terms of need :roll: We need a big tough guy at the back. End of

Can't argue with that.

The percentage of goals we concede aerially is unbelievable, yet we've once again (by choice) formed another centre back pairing that must surely be amongst the smallest in the league! :?

However, maybe I'm wrong but in open play we don't actually concede that many aerially (?), so I'm not totally convinced the height of the centre backs is the be all and end all (apart from the 2 games each season against Drogba, that is :roll: ) - It's from set pieces that we really struggle, so in theory, having a comanding 'keeper, and an overall bigger team should help... but, of course, we don't have that either! :banghead: :lol:

Almunia = 6 ft4
Fabianski = 6 ft2

Djourou = 6 ft4
Vermaelen = 6 ft
Koscielny = 6 ft1

Diaby = 6 ft3
Song = 6 ft1

Chamakh = 6ft 2
Van Persie = 6ft 2
Bendtner = 6 ft 5

As the spine of the team, you have a tall keeper, 2 tall center backs, with short athletic full backs, 2 tall central players and one smaller creative player in midfield, and the option of 1,2 or even 3 tall front men, but more likely 1 with 2 small creative wide players!

Vermaelen is AT LEAST 6'1". I met him last year and he didn't look much shorter than me (I'm 6'4").

Arsene Arsene Arsene tut tut tut :(
He's comfortable on either foot.

Spahic is not coming here to sit on the bench. No way mate. He's the best defender in Ligue 1. Better than Koscielny trust me he's top class.

The driving force in Bosnia's impressive WC qualifiers run.

He gives 110% and would happily die for his team.

Wiki have got their heights wrong.

Vermaelen is DEFINITELY taller than Song. Maybe an inch or half an inch, but still taller.

Anyway, with regards to Spahic has anyone seen the link where he states that he's close to joining Arsenal? Hopefully if/when he does he's given the captaincy as well, because this guy is what you call a true leader.

Sorry Augie, I can't agree with much you say. Wenger chooses his own players.
No thought process/ in terms of need ? We need a CB, he's bought one and reportedly looking at others. We needed a Centre forward, we aquired Chamakh!!
As for team chemistry, we have a team that play football in such a way that it is admired around the world ( but not by you ! ).

Wozza, if you think Vermalen and Koscienly are tall centre backs, then I fear this conversation cannot progress any further... :? (perhaps you've never seen powerful, huge defenders like Campbell & John Terry? - now do you see what we're lacking? REAL aerial presence!!!!)

However...

Ok, but Chamakh and Bendtner will rarely be in the same team, will they? - you have to find room for midgets like Cesc, Arshavin and Nasri! :lol:

Also, Djouoru probably won't be a regular either - hence the debate about our relatively small defence! :wink:

Also, I don't care if RvP is 9ft tall - he's not a defender, and he's not amazing in the air anyway, is he. As far as set pieces go, you can think of him as a 6ft dwarf :wink:

As for Diaby's height - yes, I think that's at least one reason why he'll play ahead of Wilshere, Denilson, etc. - much needed aerial presence!

I will remind youall that at some point we will play against Drogba, you know, 6ft2, plays for the Chavs and always seems to bully our defensive pair and score against us. Plus dont get me started on the other teams with set-piece thugs.

Koscielny will be more suited against the quick and slim strikers not the big ones. Positioning and Anticipation can only get you so far in the PL before brute strength takes over.

:shock:

FFS Those arms cant hold off Drogba!!
