Pompey v Arsenal

For fucks sake how much longer is RVp going to be injured?
£12m would get us a proven premiership goalscorer.Step forward Mr Anelka.

Please don't bring Anelka back. Yes, he'd probably net several goals between now and the end of the season, but it would go against everything Wenger stands for:

a) Bringing back an ex-player. I don't believe that Wenger has ever done this. Maybe he's just being stubborn, or maybe he thinks that what's in the past should stay in the past.

b) Spending a rumoured 12 million on a striker, who's already 28 years old. Plus, what would it do to the confidence of Eduardo, Bendtner and Walcott? They'd probably ask for transfers at the end of the season if he's taking their spot, and in a couple of years, Anelka would be gone anyway (into retirement). If Henry's worth 16 million, there's no way that Anelka's worth 12.

c) Opting for 'superstars'. Anyone with a reputation suddenly has pressure on them right away, and Wenger never likes to feel obligated to field anyone. Additionally, many of these so-called 'superstars' have attitudes. Enter Anelka, and the positive team spirit of the squad may be depleted.

At the start of the season, without Henry, nobody gave us a chance. Who would have imagined that without him, AND Robin Van Persie, that we'd be only a single point off the top spot on December 27?

Panic over!

WELL SAID.

SOMETIMES I WONDER WHETHER I'M FOLLOWING THE SAME TEAM AS SOME PEOPLE ON HERE!! FECK ME, WE ARE SECOND IN THE LEAGUE...YES, THAT'S 2ND, AND JUST 1 POINT OFF THE LEADERS WITH HALF OF THE SEASON TO GO.

THE IRONIC THING IS THAT MOST OF THE MOANING IS COMING FROM THE SAME PEOPLE THAT WEREN'T EXPECTING ANYTHING AT THE START OF THE SEASON ANYWAY!!

ALONG WITH MYSELF, THEY WERE THE ONES FEARING THE SERIOUS THREAT OF US LOSING OUR 4TH PLACE SPOT YET HERE WE ARE AT THE END OF DECEMBER JUST 1 POINT OFF THE TOP, TRAILING ONLY THE DEFENDING CHAMPIONS - WHO SPENT OVER £50 MILLION ON PLAYERS DURING THE SUMMER - AND AHEAD OF OTHERS CLUBS WHO HAVE OUT-SPENT US. I THINK THAT IS A CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION, NOT FOR DOOM AND GLOOM MONGERING AFTER ONLY PICKING UP A POINT AT A GROUND WHERE WE ALWAYS FIND IT TOUGH.

ALTHOUGH MAN UNITED ARE RIGHTLY FAVOURITES, WE ARE IN WITH A GENUINE CHANCE OF WINNING EITHER THE PREMIER LEAGUE OR THE CHAMPION'S LEAGUE THIS SEASON AND NONE OF US THOUGHT THAT WAS POSSIBLE DURING THE SUMMER AFTER HENRY LEFT - EXCEPT POSSIBILY ARSENE WENGER.

YES, IDEALLY WE COULD DO WITH A LITTLE BIT OF STRENGTHENING SQUAD WISE BUT COME ON GUYS, WE ARE STARTING TO SOUND LIKE A BUNCH OF UNGRATEFUL AND SPOILT KIDS WITH THE CONSTANT COMPLAINING.

THE END OF THE SEASON WILL BE THE PROPER TIME TO MAKE A JUDGEMENT, ON BOTH THE TEAM AND THE MANAGER'S PHILOSOPHY, SO LET'S NOT HAVE KNEE-JERK REACTIONS EVERYTIME WE FAIL TO WIN A MATCH.  INSTEAD, LET'S TRY AND ENJOY WHAT WE'RE SEEING FROM THIS YOUNG SIDE AND HOPE THAT BOTH THEY AND US WILL GET REWARDED AT THE END OF SEASON.

Quick couple of questions for bring back pires -

1. What do you think wenger is doing for the confidence of bedtner, theo &
eduardo at the moment when he refuses to start any of them in any
game of significance(which is nearly all games at the mo) and only
gives them 10/15mins if he brings them on :?: It would do fcuk for my
confidence if I was one of them

2. That fact that your username is bring back pires does it mean that you
arent really against wenger resigning former players after
all :?:

I don't think resigning old players is a good idea. Okay it worked well once with Keown but to do so right now would just stink of desperation. Anelka is quailty but too much previous and could disrupt the squad.
