I'll go with this. Has he really done anything worse than Adebayor did in the summer of 2008? Or Vieira did in the summer of 2004 (particularly)?donaldo wrote:Does anyone really believe if Barca had stumped up £50m he would still be with us? I say fuck him. Good player, but that doesn't mean he can flirt elsewhere and still expect me to be in love with him.
If I were enough of a mug to shell out cash to see Arsenal play this season (which I'm not), I'd certainly not applaud or cheer his name.

In defence of PV4, he never said he wanted to go, never. He never spoke of a desire to return home or anything like that. PV4 left when Juve put in a bid and instead of refusing it, we gave paddy the option. His thoughts were (as he states in his autobiography) Why aren't you fighting to keep me? Why are you not asking me to stay, but giving me the option to leave?.....he felt let down and left. Yes the other clubs constant public tapping up occured but Viera never said he wanted to leave.Bring Back Pires wrote:I'll go with this. Cesc on the other hand has made it clear he wants to go home.

Vieira never denied wanting to leave either though, in the summer I mentioned. Whenever he was asked (which was frequently), he always said something along the lines of, "Well now is not the time to be talking about my Arsenal career", yada yada yada. Which was highly frustrating, as it was a blatant refusal to commit. Same deal with Fabregas.northbankbren wrote:In defence of PV4, he never said he wanted to go, never. If players want to leave, I've no problem with that. But playing games with the media and the fans, and not being honest and upfront, is inexcusable.
If Fabregas had said in May (or even shortly after the World Cup), "I wish to leave", and handed in a transfer request, I'd begrudgingly accept it. But keeping his cards close to his chest does nobody any favours.
I went. Cesc was introduced as our 'world cup winner' first. Came out to a standing ovation and loads of chanting his name. He and rvp trained seperately (just running in front of fans). Lots of mutual appreciation and cesc looked happy.
For all his flaws, theo by far was the most engaged with fans, coming right up to crowd.
I got into the q&a with TV, Clichy, Sagna, fabianski. Highlight was bumping into Vermaelen in the corridor. Hmmmmm.....
Fairly dull questions (what makes arsenal special? What do you think of Wenger? How do you become a good defender?). Fabianski seems a bit dim - the others seemed to be laughing at him. Tv assured and Sagna shy, clichy was very funny, endearing and stayed to sign stuff even though arsenal had said they couldnt. Definitely has been doing this the longest and most confident with his English. Seemed like lovely and ambitious guys who are pretty matey. Only interesting question about whether cesc stuff had unsettled them was met with a no.
The day itself massively overran and seems like it could be better organised and the players put to more, interactive use.

And assuming with a high degree of confidence that you think the answer to the question is No, then shouldn't the blame be with the club for accepting the bid and selling him after claiming they wouldn't at any price, rather than the player himself for going?donaldo wrote:Does anyone really believe if Barca had stumped up £50m he would still be with us? The fact of the matter is that if the club doesn't accept a bid, the player can't leave - regardless of whether he's desperate to go or not!!
