Great shout dbrien about London Calling by the Clash. I would love to hear that at Ashburton. You have to play the whole thing though.
And also play records during the half time instead of the PA announcer reading out birthday requests now that is embarassing.

I think it would be superb, particularly the beginning of the song when the teams are in the tunnel

I know it was mentioned earlier and if it is an easily remembered, easily sung, stirring folk-type song GoonerEd is suggesting (rather than something specifically about the Arsenal) then I agree with whoever sugested "Let It Be" by the Beatles. I'm not a huge fan of the Beatles par se but I've always found that song strangely moving. Imagine 60 odd thousand people singing it...

Another one might be "Yesterday" by the same Scouse lads (Jaysus - maybe I'm a closet Beatle fan!! )

Or "Ruby Tuesday" by the Stones.

"If the kids are united" is deffo out for me, because of that one word in the title, obviously...

Tune - Eton Boating Song http://www.etoncollege.com/files/boatingsong3.swf
If you've never heard it before it's sung a bit faster than the above link.

There is a team called the Arsenal! The greatest of them all!
And we will always support you. Whether you rise or fall, or fall!
And we'll drink, drink together. In praise of the AFC!
And we’ll drink, drink, drink together. In praise of the AFC.
Fulham can stay at the Cottage. Southampton can stay at the Dell!
And as for Tottenham Hotspur! They can go to hell, to hell!
And we'll drink, drink together. In praise of the AFC!
And we’ll drink, drink, drink together. In praise of the AFCâ€

How about one step beyond by madness?

60000 singing that would take the roof off. I remember seeing Walsall do it on Soccer AM looked superb.

Madness are all Chelsea through and through. When I think of Madness I think of skinhead and mod Chelsea fans.

Thanx for the kind words DB10. I'm not one to blow my own trumpet but when someone has a god given talent like my ability to write lyrics then it would be rude not to share it with others.

All good suggestions so far. I'm not going to add to the ideas already hear but if you want to get an anthem going you have to find the kind of song thats old enough for everyone to identify with - so out go all the hits of the last decade . Blue moon/YNWA/keep right on/dehlila/bubbles all have things in common. They are old songs. They've stood the test of time; they are slightly absurd and naff in their own way and I suspect thats what's made them 'catchy' and later, popular with fans. Having said that the song also has to have broad appeal I can't see the average cypriot/black/Irish/Asian kid singing 'knees up mother brown' .

'Swing Low' may be an old slave song, but English rugby fans have adopted it as their own. While I don't mind 'Good Old Arsenal', it just does'nt 'sing' like an anthem should. Pity that 'Bejesus said Paddy' is'nt sung much now.

a good anthem I think is a song by Del Shanno called The answer to everything - he wouldnt be my favourite singer in the world (dont even know if he is still alive) but my wife wanted it played at our wedding and it is moving song. No football reference as per ynwa and annie's song for Sheef itd but you could change the lyrics slightly if you wanted too. The lyrics are below and search on the net for the tune if you can, its about 1950ish

Don't ask me a mountain of questions
When there is only one answer to it all
Do you love me, really love me as I love you
It's the answer to everything if you do

Don't give me a million excuses
When I am waiting with my arms open wide
Do you love me, really love me as I love you
It's the answer to everything if you do

If there is someone else, some other place who holds your heart
Tell me now, truthfully, before we start

Don't act like you misunderstand me
When there is simply no mystery to it all
Do you love me, really love me as I love you
It's the answer to everything if you do

you could 'its the answer to everything if you do' to 'is the Arsenal the everything to you'

worth a pop although I might get slated for this by you lot. But coupled with London's calling for the team coming out and i think they are winners dinners.
