usual thread starter… Well, well, well. Eduardo comes good. It’s taken a while, but the man suddenly looks a bit like a certain Ian Wright once he gets a sniff of goal. Totally unsuited to the intricacy of the normal build-up play, the number 9 provides something that will pose teams that think they have Arsenal all worked out a few problems. How do you reflect on the Xmas period so far? Starting with Spurs at home, it’s 7 points out of 9. United have got six from three games. Do you think the boys can stay top from here on or will there be more twists, turns and second places? Are we likely to run out of steam? Will this squad suffer from ‘squeaky bum’ syndrome as the lads of 2003 undoubtedly did?

Now a more considered response. Eduardo does offer a completely different alternative to Arsenal and probably is the key link in Plan B. Even one of our biggest critics, a certain Mr Shearer, acknowledges that sometimes Arsenal will need to play 'ugly' to win. It's surprising it's taken so long for the penny to drop: that simply bypassing the midfield thugs that teams set on us could pay dividends. Maybe at one down at Goodison and the title hopes slipping away - despite United's defeat - it was time to try something which goes against Wenger's fundamental values - and it worked, even if the final score was slightly flattering. But that's football - for Howard v Ade read Jens v Healy. As for Eduardo, dare I suggest he's more Jimmy Greaves than Ian Wright though it's the goalscoring that matters. Whatever, the more variations to our game the harder it will be for our opponents to stop us. I think more and more people think we can win the title and now even the team may believe it.
