For a man who has won lots of trophies all be it with ridiculous amounts of cash and amazing squads( he wouldn't win the league with Denilson and Diaby and neither will we), he has a real chip on his shoulder about Wenger.

Probably because when he was here the media were still in awe of what Wenger had done recently with less resources than Moaninho and they all thought Maoninho was (and still is) an odious little prick.

Who can forget him having a go at St John's Ambulance in Liverpool after there champs league game there.

He demands and gets respect for what he's done but regardless of what Wenger hasn't done in 5 years, he is still very much admired by a lot of european lcub chairmen.

He is a bit like Spurs when it comes to Wenger, it doesn't matter what he does he'll still be too bothered by what AW does.

Sad really

Trouble is though, he's said nothing that isn't true and this criticism will continue until Arsene returns to winning ways. The only way to shut the knockers up is to win something!
Spot on!! 8)

the only way you could laugh about arsenal being a big european club is if you're into hlebbys ciggies, mate - and even i who enjoy a spliff every once in a while don't find this funny at all. we're one of the only 3 teams to have qualified for the CL in the last 13 or 14 years or something like that, we're always seeded, we're always there at the quarter finals, sometimes semis, and even one final. we've destroyed inter milan, beat real madrid and milan away... sorry mate, like it or not, we're a big european club, probably the biggest to never have actually won the bloody trophy
...and we never won it...therefore we are NOT big european club. We are well know European/worldwide club, but unless we WIN CL we will never be a BIG club...
By a same token, Wenger will NOT be one of greatest managers unless he wins CL...and he knows it...
I am sure this has been done on here before, but never sure about that statement. Are these things not relative ? As Bg has stated we have played in the CL over the last 14 years making a final and semi/qf at times.

Using that logic, are Notting Forest and Aston Villa big european clubs ?

Are Chelsea NOT a big European club ?

exactly. no team in europe would want to face us or chelsea. that's been hapenning for the last 6-7 years. how come both clubs are not big european clubs, then?

will you tell me that real madrid hasn't been a big european club for the last decade? because they've been quite worse than us in the CL...
Well if you discount their 2 European Cups this decade, then perhaps you have a point!! But then again, isn't it the fact that they had already won 7 European Cups before that the thing which made them an obviously big club, if not the biggest? :? :?

Now personally I think our history dictates that we should be considered a big European club - although I do understand the argument that until we win the CL, many won't consider us so, despite the 'achievement' of constantly qualifying. :banghead:
no, you guys don't get me. i made i mistake when i said to look at the last decade, so look at the last 7, 8 years then. what i mean is that we won european trophies before, and we are a constant threat in the CL, even a bigger threat than real madrid in the last few years. no one wants to face arsenal nor chelsea.

that's why i'm saying that yes, WE ARE A BIG EUROPEAN CLUB

barça was the best team in the world when they beat us, maybe so was utd with ronaldo. we were stuffed by both teams, but i remember guardiola saying that we were the worst team they could get.

sorry, people don't want to face us. not after what we did to real madrid, inter milan, barcelona, juventus...

That was like watching a car crash, BG  - I knew you meant AC Milan, and not Barca, and I was just waiting for someone to pounce on you!!

Anyway, we ARE a big European club.... we're just not one of the great clubs.

As you say, teams don't want to face us, which means we're one of the most competitive teams of the decade - but, historically, we're not in the same league as the truely great clubs like AC Milan, Man Utd, Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Juventus. Sadly, due to the leagues they're in, Benfica and Ajax are falling from their position amongst the greats, although they'll always be remembered for what they acheived in the European cup in a way we won't.

In fact, apart from a disappointing final in 2006, we've achieved very little in the European Cup.

However, I think Wenger would point to the 2 doubles he has won with Arsenal and the fact that most of Jose's trophies have been "bought". Credit to him for the CL's he won with Inter and Porto, but I don't think his record at Chelsea was anything special given the money he had to spend.
Can't agree with you more Mike :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

I hope Barca *word censored* will win everything in Spain this year, shut the Fuck off Jose

Porto haven't exactly excelled since he left and that's because he doesn't leave a legacy. He has no interest in what goes on after he's left.

Chelsea will keep doing well till Abramowich turns the taps off. It's no coincidence that the only clubs The not-so-special ones bigs up are the ones he probably can't compete with financially in the transfer market.

The only clubs that have outperformed The Arsenal in Europe and domestically are the big spenders.

Mourinho is just a WUM, Sky lap up his rubbish because it's anti-Arsenal rubbish. If he slagged off Fergie they wouldnt lap it up as much. It's the same way they lap up all the crap that Graham-no-nothing Hunter comes up with after reading the latest edition of Marca or whatever.

Mourinho can say all he wants. Can't wait for the madrilenos to chant his name after yet another dull depressing, football stiffling 1-0 win. It will only wash for a few months till they realise they've got goal machines like Ronaldo playing left back ala Eto'o in the champs league final.

They are not like Barca/Chelsea fans desperate for any win to piss off their rivals, they will not be happy with it.
Calderon will bin him if he bores them to tears within one season, title or no title.

Mourinho is arguagbly the best manager in Europe when its comes to making an impact in a match with his tactical changes and substitutions, something that isnt the strength of Arsene and that has been his criticism over the years. However a manager like Mourinho has no longivity. For all the success he had, he was sacked (though unpopularly) from Chelsea, he quit Inter within 2 seasons. He is too egoistic and outspoken a character to stay at one place for a considerable period of time. Though its a natural tendency to compare managers based on trophies won, I think it should also be taken into account the resources available to them, the brand of football they preach and their loyalty. I admire a lot about Mourinho, i despise a lot about him as well but he will never have the respect Arsene and even to a certain extent even Ferguson has in my eyes.
