With all the negative comments in the press from Sol Campbell and others about the reception for former players I actually thought MOTD might counter it by showing the applause for Freddie when he came off. In the event they just did their usual "substitute" subtitle at the bottom of the screen. Seems its only worth showing if its bad!

Based on the comments in this thread, I may have been the only one not applauding Ljungberg during his substitution. Don't get me wrong - I think he was a fantastic player during his prime, and was the first to cheer / applaud for his contributions during the 2001-02 season (and closely surrounding seasons too).
If he had left gracefully, i'd have been happy to let these memories come flooding back, but the simple fact is, he didn't. What's even more annoying than his arrogant pot-shots at Arsenal after he was sold was his work ethic in his final two seasons. He was absolutely abysmal, and didn't look like he gave two hoots. I for one was glad to see him go, especially at that price. Great in his prime, but very frustrating in his final years.
And that was when he was playing! Normally he was too busy sitting at home with a headache collecting his 60 grand per week, appearing in Sky documentaries and in Calvin Klein photoshoots. Nothing wrong with these activities of course; but when you're not performing in your primary job, this should obviously be frowned upon. Henry appeared in many media advertisements / campaigns - but his performances always backed it up (except the odd game here or there).
Ljungberg was the ultimate prima donna who only joined West Ham so that he could stay in London and remain a 'megastar'. And that's why he threw a childish tantrum when Wenger called time on his Arsenal career (though he should've been lucky, as most would've called it long before; and it SURELY should've been called before the end of Pires's).
So if you're asking if I applauded Ljungberg? The answer is no. But nor did I jeer him, because once upon a time, he was fantastic for us.
