Good debut, shocking red card but lets hold off on the ticker tape parade for now eh ?

I agree we need to have a defender to dominate in the air, tbh no reason why they can't play against some sides as a pair, but they can't play vs the like of Stoke.
Set pieces would not be so bad if we had a DCM who could dominate but we don't.
I think if we had a keeper that would meet the ball at it's highest point and catch it, this would be less of a weakness but all 3 add up to massive flaw.

Have to disagree with the DM point - Song is one of the best headers of the ball in the team - im sure ive read somewhere that he doesnt mark anyone at corners or freekick as he is told to "attack the ball" as he is regarded as the strongest in the air.RNTGOONER wrote:I agree we need to have a defender to dominate in the air, tbh no reason why they can't play against some sides as a pair, but they can't play vs the like of Stoke.

We are poor at Corners and Free Kicks - but i think a lot of the comes from a defence not knowing what on earth their goalkeeper is going to do.
To the point, i thought Laurent had a very good debue against tough opponents - what i liked most was that he and TV seem to have already formed a good partnership. The real tests are to come, but he looked comitted, brave and willing to work hard - and thats exactly what we need - another good CB buy from Wenger

Just need another one now!

Well put augie,I say exactly the same, and we need to watch extremely carefully how he develops or games after regulr games next few weeks.augie wrote:I certainly thought that the guy did ok today but by the same token I feel some of the praise he is receiving is a tad exagerratedYes he matched torres for pace buy that wasnt our area of weakness......defending set pieces and crosses in general are our weak spots and he done fcuk all to remedy either of those today.

Still need at least one C/D if not twoin my mind.

Basic defending is clearing your lines.richpye wrote:By total pants...I take it you mean, made 1 error.
He's been solid clearing his lines and has made a few decent challenges
He has no pace and he is weak.
He is sh!te and not good enough to play for Arsenal.

Loved the way he backed out of the challenge, let the Blackburn guy go right past him, and ended up watching them tap in the equaliser.
That play was dying for a sliding challenge. Even if you don't get the ball, giving away a free-kick in that area is preferable to giving away the goal.
Other than that, he's had a really poor game.

A tough defender would have knocked him into row z and taking his medicine (yellow card). The aim of defending is to prevent an attacker from getting the other side of you. What the f*ck was he thinking?
