What was his goal scoring record like before he joined us? Just because he was fortunate to be part of a world class team doesn't mean he was world class himself. He only reached that status after several years with us.

Maybe not world class but a huge talent, who had scored 3 goals the world cup finals without being a regular starter. Won the world cup and on the back of that got a move to Juventus. Don't know what his scoring record for Monaco was. Chamakh is 26, how old was Henry when we bought him?

Henry would have been world class, also at another club. Just a case of we got there at the right time.

Wenger used to sign great players - Pires - Overmars - Henry all had decent reps before they joined us although Overmars had injury probs and Henry's stock had diminished a bit due to his time in Italy but these 3 for example were worth a punt. He was never adverse to grabbing an unknown and some worked and others didn't - young players too - think of Vieira and Anelka as doing well whereas Wreh and and Boa Morte not so good. We splashed big when we needed too - remember Wiltord and Reyes - perhaps not the most successful pair but still did ok and proved we were up there by investing big.

Now we seem only able to capture players in the low to middle bracket - Its almost like an aversion to spending big. Is Squillaci a top signing? 21 caps for france in 6 years doesnt tell me he is the top quality centre back we need? Koscielny is 24 and has only just decided which country he wants to play for? No caps at age 24 speaks volumes? I notice someone has already mentioned Chamakh's 1 in 4 scoring record so I wont go over old ground!!

I don't expect us to compete with Man City or Barcelona and others who can pay stupid money to get top stars but once in a while we should be treated to a marque signing - and before anyone shouts Arshavin we hung that one out like a soap opera to squeeze the very cheapest deal we could and almost risked the deal collapsing.

The club is solvent and infact operating with a good profit - we are comfortably servicing the stadium debt so there is no real excuse for not spending big. I don't want us to ever spend £200 million in one summer and cut off the route to the first team for the youngsters but there is a balance that can be struck!!!

If the board was with holding funds from Wenger would he really have singed a new contract if he felt as though the board were acting against him?? Not a prayer - he would have simply seen out his contract. Which tells me that either he just doesnt want to spend (mistake) or he is in collusion with the board and now simply a yes man??

A manager should be there to create the best team he possibly can - if we have glaring deficiencies like a terrible GK he must demand the board buy whoever he feels can make us stronger - no matter what the cost. If the board says no then he should come out and say to the fans that his hands are tied. I would much rather Wenger and the board come out and say we would love to have bid £20million for LLoris but we couldnt afford it - at least that way we would know who we need to blame for the inactivity because at the moment they are both culpable!!!

I hope i am wrong but I can see us getting knocked out of the CL before the 1/4's and struggle to get in the top 4 - not because I dont think we have some good players but because many of our better ones are injury prone and we don't have adequate cover.

Wenger is a Grade A dick and from now on he means shit to me  The man had, after two seasons, realised that we needed a proper keeper and lodged a meagre bid in may. That he sat on his arse doing fcuk all in the 3 months since and destabilised our existing shit keepers is an absolute disgrace to me. I am sick to the bollox of listening to fcuking morons defending the man way beyond a reasonable level - under any other board in any other club this man would be history but we reward the deluded gobshite with a 4 year contract of 115k per week

The inactions of the people running our club sum up everything that is wrong with our club right now......wenger spends a month moonlighting in africa for french tv when he should have been getting his house in order at home but instead of holding him accountable for his continued mismanagement our board remain silent and happy enough to have a yes man alongside them    Personally I am now 100% behind a takeover even if it is usmanov cos I dont imagine rewarding failure would be on his to do list

Really cannot wait to hear the redaction group chanting about how there is only 1 arsene wenger.......then again they are proper fans aint they and clearly they are the voice representing us all   :banghead:

How can anyone have the nerve to call Wenger a 'prick' and a '*word censored*', show some bloody respect to a man who has done so much to our club.

At the end of the day you need both the player and the selling club to come to terms in order for them to sell a player, we proved that with Cesc. Only when money talks can players hold clubs to ransom and we don't hold the kind of money that some others do.
The transfer market was dead this summer, look who Liverpool ended up with for christs sake, no one was selling their players and if we couldn't get our target then did you really want us chasing after anyone and everyone in an act of desperation like Spurs have been today?

Agreed

To WalesGooner71: I understand what you're saying about Koscielny, but remember Ian Wright, there are plenty of players out there who are slow burners and don't get going until a bit later. Wenger seems to think that Koscielny is one of those and apparently he wasn't the only manager looking at the guy, even though he'd only played oneseason in France's top division.
