It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.
Terrific filmmaker - his Documentaries on Hurricane Katrina - "When the Levees Broke - A Requiem In Four Acts" and "If God Is Willing and Da Creek Don't Rise" should be essential viewing for any American history class anywhere on Earth. And his dramatic films have had brilliant moments, characters, and stories.
He is mate of Henry's so can be free to support him.
Does not mean he is not still an Arsenal follower.
He is an American, and as such could well not be aware of the significance of his T Shirt and the recent antipathy between the clubs. To him it is just appreciating another good team, one that is not in the English league.
He has worked with Nike too in the past, the T Shirt could even be a freebie.
People sometimes wear sports tops because they like the colours, Brand Nubian MC Lord Jamarr used to wear a Coventry City top, I think it possible but unlikely he has much of a connection to the club.
I do not think anyone felt Lee was some sort of died in the wool fan anyway, it is not as if he was celebrating when we won the double in 1971.

You make some valid points here although I am inclined to believe he would know better than to say that and just wear that, even as a show of support to Henry. Lee may or may not be a HUGE soccer fan but he knows his sports and takes them deadly seriously. He would be more than aware that this would offend any Arsenal supporter whatever the context
While back long before any of the recent history as in a couple of years earlier I planned to by a classic Barca shirt just to go clubbing in - it LOOKED COOL - that was it.My mate set me straight though and reminded me you only wear your team's shirt, and I've never forgotten. Like I say i can absolutely see Spike following Barca while Henry was there attending matches rooting for Henry there and all that. But the shirt goes too far, and he would know that. He's not Tara Reid supporting Chelsea "woo-hoo!" -its a party - she's in there trust me
With there being so many American sports and leagues/levels it's common for an American sports fan to root for many sports teams whether it be from a different sport or seperate divisions within the same sport. However, said fan generally has one team he puts a bit higher than the other. For instance, if two teams a fan rooted for were to play he would cheer for his favorite of the two. It makes sense that this ideology would carry over to european football. Spike may support both sides. Barca as his la liga side and Arsenal as his premier league team. If we were to play barca, for all we know, spike may put his support for barca aside for that tie.
Of course we would like our celebrity fans to be as passionate as us, but this fan ideology is not necessarily wrong, but culturally different.
What do i think? F*** barca!!! Oh, and i don't really give a toss about spike lee
