Eddie Kelly was captain for season 74-75. Unfortunatley one of the worst season in our history. I sure David O"Leary was captain in the early eightes.

Watched Arsenal v Tottenham from 1980/1 on ESPN classics last night and David O'Leary was the captain for that game. Anyone know when (or even how considering he stayed on at Arsenal another decade) his reign ended?

I know Rix's ended in 1985 because of a drink driving conviction.

So is that Eddie Kelly for season 1974/5, was he followed by Ball?

Kelly replaced Ball as captain at the start of 75-76 as Ball was dropped - Ball returned as captain though and Kelly, pissed off, left for QPR.

O'Leary simply decided captaincy wasn't for him and I think it was mutual between him and the management that he stepped down. He wanted to just concentrate on his game. After he went into management and originally did well at Leeds there was a lot of surprise at his success given his reluctance to be a captain.

So was it Pat Rice that followed on from Ball and Graham Rix that followed on from O'Leary?
