I'm pretty sure this has been discussed here before, but I just read this on arsenal.com....

Looks like Chelsea and Man City will be losing their massive financial advantage after all.

We can but hope , but you would think like most ideas geared towards sanctions that clubs willl find a loophole somewhere ?

I absolutely guarantee you that Chelsea and Citeh will find a loophole to get around this.

Their highly paid, tricky lawyers will find something that allows them to offset the money in Abramovich's wallet against money spent on goldfish in the manager's office and if they do that on a Wednesday, they can play in the Champions League after all . . . . .

I really hope this happens but - - - - - MONEY TALKS!!!!

It will be interesting to see what rules are in place from stopping team turning debt into equity...this is where they have to be strict.

True, but just how big a difference will these rules make anyway? They aren't designed as much to reel in the bigger spenders as to try and prevent smaller clubs from irresponsibly trying to spend what they don't have to keep up. In other words they are about preventing what happened at LeEds or Pompey or Real Mallorca in Spain.

And your absolutely - lawyers at these clubs - at all the big clubs(remember when we got rung for off-shore accounts we set up for our players by the Inland Revenue?) -will be studying and searching for any and every way they can get around over and under the rules.

And the G-14 Clubs always have that European Super League ace in the hole they can pull out if UEFA ventures too close to them. The result being the big clubs will likely skate while some clubs on the level of Villa or Birmingham City get nailed a few times. If a big club gets nailed G-14 will make clear what they are ready to do and the rules will be reviewed and revised so that doesn't happen again.

G-14 defunct as of 2008 replaced by much larger European Club Association.

New rules not just to stop small clubs spending, they apply to all clubs.

Yes you're right - my bad sort of like calling the Europa the Ufea Cup or the Champions League the European Cup.

Indeed if anything this give the bigger clubs greater influence and some the not-quite -so big clubs in the Associattion aren't going to want to be left behind and fighht the big clubs here, meaning if anything the Big Clubs wield even more power when they feel the desire to wield out.

I personally do not see a European Super League happening let alone succeeding any time soon. But it remains a very potent negotiating tool for the bigger clubs as no one oin their right mind can ignore its threat to the viability or profitability of domestic league football across Europe.

As to what the rules do - their goal is to prevent smaller or less wealthy clubs from over-extending themselves. Any limits on what the bigger clubs spend are designed not to simply level the playing field but do idscourage smaller or again less wealthy clubs with ambition from risking their financial viability pursuing that ambition.

In other words the new financial rules are more likely to improve balance sheets that to alter league tables. If anything they will likely simplyn depress the transfer market activity across the continent - meaning that the top clubs will only pull further away form the small fry until and unless team wage caps or ceilings on individual player wages are enacted which I do not see happening at all for some time yet if at all ensuring the gap remains or even gets wider between the haves and have-nots.

Nice try but we all know - even Mr. Wenger hedges on this that the devil is in the details. And anyone who says that bigger clubs will be as constrained than smaller clubs is iether simply sadly naive or simply deceiving themselves.

We are in the real world and in the real world world money talks and bullshit walks and they both always will no matter what we want to believe.

The rules are same for all clubs.

Are UEFA supposed to penalise clubs with higher revenues? Is success something to be penalised? Hope not.

Said the very same to myself......only a fool would believe that these new laws will curb the spending of the likes of barca, madrid, chavs and man shitty and of course wenger is one such fool

Instead of focusing on trying to drag them down to our level would it not be better if we focused on trying to reach their level ??

I mean most fans on here would argue that we are only 2 or 3 quality players away from them as we are so surely that should be our aim ? If wenger is waiting for these clubs to crumble under financial ruin then he will have a long wait

Maybe I'm just pissing into the wind with my hopes for a level playing field.

But I'm hoping that Blatter and his mates will actually see this new rule through to the end.

They have already introduced some unnecessary laws. It's about time they introduced a good law.

It will be challeged in court, without a doubt, by the no-history-lots-of-money clubs. And by Barcelona and Real Madrid, too.

It's fingers crossed time.

So you'd like to see the club loaded with debt and spent into oblivion? Leeds, Pompey and Real Mallorca ring a bell? Wenger realises that football cannot sustain its current model; transfer fees and wages are out of control and new financial rules have to ensure that clubs spend within their means and live prudently otherwise more will go to the wall
