New UEFA financial rules
If I can move the subject back to the original point :
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010 ... -fair-play
This does show that some of the loopholes discussed on here have already been covered.
I have heard a big rumour, that Man City have paid massive fees, followed by massive one-off signing on fees which are all payable now before the rules kick in.
Then once the rules have kicked in the wage structure for the players already signed reduces dramatically to get around the rules and allow spending on new players. This is why Man City have had to spend at the levels they have done.
I still however think that this will benefit Arsenal, but the biggest benefit will be felt by the Germans and the French. And if there is a chance it will benefit the french, then Platini will ensure this will be done properly...which is good

I mean most fans on here would argue that we are only 2 or 3 quality players away from them as we are so surely that should be our aim ? If wenger is waiting for these clubs to crumble under financial ruin then he will have a long wait

Augie its not a suprise - Peter Hill-Wood has done the very same thing - tried to paint this as a choice between what we are doing and the apocolypse because that's a choice people don't want and won't question.
The use of fear tactics by - I'm sorry but Mr Hill-Wood is Chairman of it - the Board is dishonest, distasteful, and shameful and benaeath someone representing this football club. They talk even now of doing things the right way. Well surely using scare tactics is not doing things the right way when its solely to silence critics of or doubters in what they are doing.
Since the club's own representatives seem willing to do it it's hardly a surprise that some supporters would. Indeed, that exactly why its being done by the representatives.

US hill wood is just a figure head, and has no real power....but yes he is known for talking out of his arse a lot of the time.
These new rules are very questionable and will uefa really follow through with them to the fullest extent?
Owners can put money into the club by purchasing shares, this in only "to build solid infrastructure such as training grounds or youth development facilities, but not overspending on wages or transfers." - For me this is the most important rule, and the one if inforced will make the real difference. Chelski and Citeh have made their books look nice and healthy by turning debt to the owners into equity, if the above rule is put in place this will mean none of this money will be allowed for players tranfer funds or wages. This WOULD give us a massive advantage.
BUT can you see the champions of a certain league not being allowed in the CL????
It could mean for example the likes of Chlelski, Spuds, Citeh, Man USA not being allowed in the CL and replaced by Everton, Bolton, Blackburn.............It could mean technically a team in 17th could qualify for the Champions League......can you see it happening.......I cant.

When does football stop sustaining it current model? Its been happening for a few years now and NO clubs have gone to the wall and i cant see any going in the future. Will Wenger be saying the same thing in 20 years, thats the problem he always talk about the future so he can never be wrong but he has been so far.AA23Northbank wrote:So you'd like to see the club loaded with debt and spent into oblivion? There are all sorts of loopholes intellegent accountants can get the clubs through. Like everything at UEFA and FIFA its a load of bollocks
What's so bloody typical about it? If we try and go for quality players the likes of Real, Barca and Man City will come in and bid ridiculous amount of money for them. What's the point in trying to get into crazy bidding war for some players? Wenger is doing the best he can not spending and not getting into crazy bidding wars and if you didn't notice, we had improved on 09/10 from 08/09 barring the end of the season. IMO the rules can help bring back a bit of sanity to the transfer market and help us competeaugie wrote:AA23Northbank wrote:So you'd like to see the club loaded with debt and spent into oblivion? Typical fcuking responseWhere the fcuk did I say anything about spending us into oblivion a la dirty leeds, pompey etc ? What I suggested is that wenger acquire 2 or 3 quality players to bridge that gap not build a new team costing billions
In case you hadnt heard the new rules are proposing that clubs be self sustaining and I would assume that spending the money you recoup from transfer sales on purchasing new players is within that parameter and if we actually even did that much then that would be an improvement on how things are currently being done

Exactly!! The more you read this pronouncement by the Ivory Tower dwellers at UEFA, the more you realise it's a load of old horsewank!!flash gunner wrote: There are all sorts of loopholes intellegent accountants can get the clubs through. Like everything at UEFA and FIFA its a load of bollocks
It's like an announcement by Blair or Brown - designed to grab tomorrows headlines but by the time it comes round f**k all has changed. The banks still pay huge bonuses to chumps / Bob Crow is still an arsehole stuck in 1977 / bears still shit in the woods / super rich club owners employ tricky lawyers to find a loophole for everything!!
Anyone remember Sp*rs getting deducted 12 points for fielding a weakened team years ago? Anyone else remember Lord Sugar (wanker!!) employing the trickiest, slimiest lawyers in the world to get that overturned about 4 seconds later??
MONEY TALKS!!!!

The clubs you refer to are only interested in buying the very top level of world players and I have never suggested that we try and compete with them at any stage......what I am saying is that when we have a real weakness in our team (keepers position for example) we actually make proper efforts to sort it out and offer proper money for a quality keeper (8m for given, 6m for dutch keeper or someone of that ilk) instead of fannying about offering 2m for a 39yr old fcuking journeyman keeper

Deliberately taking words out of context is also dishonest distasteful and shamefulstg wrote:the Board is dishonest, distasteful, and shameful and benaeath someone representing this football club

What was actually said was this
What does it say of you belief in the Board that you are reliant most often upon trying to discredit me and my views by deliberately selectively editing what I have actually said. And what does it say about the character of a person who chooses to do that?USMartin wrote:The use of fear tactics by - I'm sorry but Mr Hill-Wood is Chairman of it - the Board is dishonest, distasteful, and shameful and benaeath someone representing this football club. He may be a figurehead but he's been allowed to publicly represent the club and spout these comments multiple times and not once has anyone at the club publicly disputed them or pulled him back from saying them which surely they would do if they wanted to. I stead they let him say again and again. It's not some accident it keeps happening. It's a ctactic. a fear tactic, a scare tactic.northbankbren wrote:US hill wood is just a figure head, and has no real power....but yes he is known for talking out of his arse a lot of the time.

As to the rest of this I'm not against financial rules that will prevent the worst-case scenarios we all know about repeating themselves. But I find no reason to bel;ieve they actually would give us any advantage, and I find even less reason to celebrate it if that in fact is true. I don't want to win anything on technicalties, or Because Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini are our Riley and Durkin impacting the course or silverware from off the pitch as surely as they on it.
I don't need my dad to fight the neighborhood bully for me just because I might not be able to win myself cause he's bigger.
In all serious this is a fascinating and even troubling question because to me no business model is eternally sustainable without regular corrective adjustments ahead of economic tides shifting. Football has not made the adjustments and shows no sign really of doing so on its oown, therefore I cannot be sure when but at some point a real peak must be reached that can be sustained or decline gradually ahead of peaking again.flash gunner wrote:When does football stop sustaining it current model? You have to wonder if and when exctly that will happen and what will result, and that is a bit scary because we may when it happens neverr again see the football we are seeing now or grew up seeing in terms of the make-up of competitive club football and its leagues domestically across the world.
I'm not sure. I don't know when the mdel will cease to sustain itself sufficeintly - but I am of the "something's got to give at some point" line of thinking. I'm just not sure what will give or when or what will emerge.
Could I be more vague and genuine at the same time? Second thought, don't answer that
