Vela seemed to be missing the hunger to force his way into the team last year. People say he wasnt getting his chance but Wenger rarely completely overlooks a player for no reason, he clearly wasn't showing enough in training to earn a place even when all of our strikers were injured.
He just needs to focus on doing what he can this year when he gets the chance and with our injury record i cant see him not getting a proper oppurtunity at some point.
On a broader note, it is very encouraging that with our injuries even in-form players like vela and rosicky cannot force themselves into the starting 11.

Not his fault Wenger only brings him on when the game is already won.donaldo wrote:Dont be fucking stupid.Vela always comes on and scores when the game is well won.Name me one game when he has scored the winning goal in a game?.AA23 does it from the start not with 20 mins to go against tired defenders1989 wrote: Agreed. I have to say he may be turning the corner and may actually be ready to prove my contention that he is strictly a La Liga player though I would like to see him show some of this from at places like Sunderland and against teams like s***s before I'm ready to say he really can be and is a Premiership player.
My only other concern is that as gifted as he clearly is is he dynamic enough to be more than what we have seen so far? Is he able to take it to that faster more athletic gear that is essential against the bigger Premiership clubs or in those physically frenetic battling games oop north?

i still haven't made my mind up about vela. looks like a brilliant finisher, but not much more than that, so i can't say i see him as a key player in the short term.
was thinking about this not long ago - arshavin has probably 2-3 seasons at the top level left, and right now we don't have another left winger to grab his position when he leaves. let's see how vela and wellington will progress

must keep vela for a long time and not let him go off to some spanish team. he will be quality.
btw, i really believe that wenger should look to sell Bendtner in the january transfer window if our strike force can stay injury free, but thats a big IF. i do not like the way our team plays with bendtner in it. chamakh has showed what a striker with true hold-up skill can do.

Interesting point - because while I can't really find an Arsenal player for the better half of the comparison he could just be a somewhat quicker Eduardo too.brazilianGOONER wrote:i still haven't made my mind up about vela. looks like a brilliant finisher, but not much more than that, so i can't say i see him as a key player in the short term.

well that's all the time he gets, scores when he comes on , scores for Mexico no matter how much time he gets with Arsenal and Wenger seems almost to have a bias against him.donaldo wrote:Dont be fucking stupid.Vela always comes on and scores when the game is well won.Name me one game when he has scored the winning goal in a game?.AA23 does it from the start not with 20 mins to go against tired defenders1989 wrote: Agreed. yes Arshavin played well but he's so streaky like he's disinterested and I really would love to see Vela get consistent time and starts to see if he realy can hack it at the top level.
but you've got to be impressed with his touch when he does get the chance, you can argue that he'd get less chances in a tighter game but when given the chance -- he converts. His touch and flair is unique even on arsenal, one thing he does is seem very willing to take defenders on one v. one.

Vela has potential but as said above he seems to only show quality when a game is dead and buried... and let's not forget Braga aren't exactly world class are they?
Can Vela score against the chavs at their place or at the manc filth? I dunno. He has some nice touches in the box though and seems to finish without panicking. He needs a run of games to see if he can step up. Wouldn't write him off yet...

Vela seems good when we are already winning by a few goals and the team we are playing have completely gone....he looks world class then...fair play to the lad he has bagged 3 goals lately, all very neat finishes, but im not sure we should get too carried away just yet?
I certainly wouldnt go as far as making him a starter, he is doing a decent job from the bench at the moment, leave it that way

uumm maybe if vela was given the chance to start then he could score? But I dont agree that he should start ahead ASH. That guy can produce those runs which sends me down memory lane when a certian overmars went steam-rollering thru at OT.... OOhhh those daydonaldo wrote:Dont be fucking stupid.Vela always comes on and scores when the game is well won.Name me one game when he has scored the winning goal in a game?.AA23 does it from the start not with 20 mins to go against tired defenders1989 wrote: Agreed. True but two straight matches with goals that are not in either case against lower divison sides in the Carling Cup now against anyone suggests there may be a bit more to it is all, and if you have read my comments on him I am hardly his biggest fan and still not fully convinced Arsenal is the place for him or that we are best served by having him against some other strikers or centre-forwards in his place.DB10GOONER wrote:Vela has potential but as said above he seems to only show quality when a game is dead and buried... and let's not forget Braga aren't exactly world class are they?

Like I say I want to see him do this in matches like Saturday and against higher caliber opponents as well, and even in the 15 thn instead of the 75th minute to be fully convinced but I am actuually a fair bit hopeful he might do just that now.
