always love hearing the moans and groans when ppl saying yellow is our away kit colours and always has been...when you look at that, we were WHITE (so nice to see the club referring to this in last few years ey? ) and then we had BLUE until yellow was used in 1950 & 1952 FA cup finals, then not used until 1969.

So except for 2 games, we didn't wear yellow for over 70 years 8)

The 2005-2006 kit was supposed to be based on our old colours, wasn't it?

I don't see that colour anywhere on that link. :? :? :? :?

I asked the guy who runs the site for you:

Hi Dave,

I believe in our first season at Highbury 1913/14 we wore a redcurrant shirt, and this was replicated for the last season at highbury in 2005.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Michael - I am still trying to find reliable evidence for this. The notion of a "redcurrant" shirt was part of the promotional campaign for the 2005-06 strip and is not in itself evidence. I do not trust retrospective information put out by marketing people as it has generally proved incorrect.

Contemporary records describe Arsenal's early strips simply as red but I have become convinced that they were indeed a dark red but the precise tone has yet to be established. There is a colourised photograph of the 1913-14 team but the colourisation process is by no means accurate and I suspect it was produced to support the 2005-06 campaign.

Since no original shirts from this period appear to have survived, the jury is still out on this question.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I see your point - Marketing deptmarments will do anything to shift merchandise, but we did play a team a few years back in the Champions League, might have been Swiss or Austrian that had a red current shirt, and was again as "ledgend has it" based on our original highbury shirt as we invited them to play against us in the first few years after moving to Highbury.

So that sorts that out... well sort of :D

So it is possible we never actually had a specifically "redcurrent" jersey?

It shouldn't surprise me where marketing scum (and our club) are concerned but I think that would be a serious pisstake on the club's behalf if they faked it. :?

Yes.....but they no fuck all about football and asking what the fans want!

Fans: "We'd like our away kit to be yellow with blue sleeves. See what you can do with that?"

Nike: Yellow and blue has been done before, forget tradition. How about this?
It's all white which is a 'pure' colour and show all which is good in the world and for football.
