It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

No just a black screen from which I can start nothing but Task Manager.
I do, however get a blue screen if it goes on for 5 mins or so.
In that case you need to start again, copy anything that you can or that you want to keep, after starting it up in safe mode, and then use the disks that came with your system to build it up again. What's the operating system? I may have a windows 7 recovery disk that I can copy for you if you want to have Win7 on it??
Dear Frank'll fix it
I have none of the problems that SWL has ( ) but I do have the occasional "unexpected shutdown" and then a blue screen with dumping information for about 30 secs before it asks me whther I want to start in safe mode or standard. Is this serious or not? I don't have problem accessing any of my programs.
Thanks.

A blue screen dump is never good young Paul, it'll get gradually worse.
1. How long has it been happening?
2. What operating system you running?

Is it something to do with my hibernate/shut down settings? My laptop does not shutdown randomly, this seems to happen when I listen to a podcast on itunes, and have the laptop set to go to sleep and then hibernate after a short time of inactivity. My laptop hasn't yet just shut down while I am working.
Marc, what's the make and type of your laptop? I'll do some searching about today, when I get a moment at work. As the guy above says, it could be something to do with a heat sink problem.

Cheers Frank...it's a Sony Vaio VGN-NS20E.
Marc, I'm having a nightmare finding out any information on line about your 'problem' with this laptop?? The Sony website is absolutely shite!!!
I think the best thing would be to amend your power settings, as you aluded to earlier on, if you google the problem, there are references to random shutdowns, but unfortunately, the forums about it, appear to be locked down, when trying to drill down for more information.
If amending the power settings doesn't work, and the random shutdowns persist, I would, personally, rebuild it again?? (Apologies I haven't been more helpful)

Cheers Frank...I am backing-up everything and will then try to amend some settings and look at my drivers.
