1334: A few early tackles flying in, and Nigel de Jong has just put the classic reducer on new Newcastle favourite Hatem Ben Arfa. Lay off him Nige, I've been looking forward to watching the 'new David Ginola'.
1336: Actually, this doesn't look too good for Ben Arfa. It looks on the replays like De Jong gets the ball but then sweeps his right foot round to sweep the Frenchman's standing leg - it doesn't look good. The stretcher is on and the winger remains down, receiving oxygen. De Jong can consider himself lucky to have got away with that.

Its unacceptable and I don't care if he tried to play the ball, its reckless and theres no place for reckless tackles in the PL. Others can play the ball and tackle well.

He will of course be applauded for adjusting to the English game so quickly

I know, talk about adding insult to injury. I'd love to see a victim of one of these challenges take legal action. The refereeing of the game is negligent, the tackle is an assault.
First time I've seen De Jong's foul on Ben Arfa - it's not quite as bad as Henry's but it's reckless and designed to intimidate an opponent. Both feet of the ground, flying into to an opponent who is running at speed.
Main difference is that Ben Arfa was hit on his planted leg whereas Gomez was so lucky to be hit when both his feet were off the ground.
Can't believe the divvie referee didn't even book De Jong. Deffo a yellow and no-one could complain if he'd seen red.
