CHELSEA AWAY THREAD
Just playing Devil's Advocate here, the Arsenal board are trying to create and maintain a sustainable business model. Chelsea have had to rely on a sugar daddy to pour money into the club, just as Man City are now doing. Arsenal have chosen not to do that - probably rightly. The risks of getting the wrong investors in (Man Utd, Liverpool), or a board that goes for short term glory (Leeds), are coming/have come home to roost.
The frustrating thing for me is that i don't believe Wenger needs to break the bank to get a bit more experience and physicality into a team that is lacking in just a few key positions. Van der Vaart's signing is a recent example of the sort of player we could have done with. And the less said about the goalkeeping situation the better.

Ouch - now that does sound painful!!Has he gone to the Doctors as I'm sure they do a cream for that condition which will help the faeces flow past the entrance of his bottom more smoothly and thus make the experience less traumatic?

We'd all like to believe that - and certainly the Board wouls like us to believe it, but there are just too many lttle oddities here. Like the fact that we could he achieved that same goal and not reduced investment in the team has we simply sold Highbury rather than re-developing it oursleves, a poroject which so far has clearly only benefitted major shareholders at the club personally and financially while forcing the club to sacrifice its position on the pitch at or near the top of Premiership and European football.nigeyb wrote:Just playing Devil's Advocate here, the Arsenal board are trying to create and maintain a sustainable business model. If several Board members hadn't made alot of money on top of their own personal wealth as a result of this course I might be inclined to believe that argument, but I'm not a big believer in coincidences when millionaires pocket millions more.
Pretty much agree here, that why these policies are so exasperating. Arsenal seems to be operating like BP risking to disaster to maxmize club - and thus when they sell more shares - personal profits, and their plan if things don't go right seems to be to hope that doesn't happen. Which is how BP got in the mess it's in over here. I don't know about VanDeVaart as we have more pressing needs in terms of defensive midfield as opposed to another attacking midfielder, but do understand your point there.nigeyb wrote:The frustrating thing for me is that i don't believe Wenger needs to break the bank to get a bit more experience and physicality into a team that is lacking in just a few key positions. The main problem is simple - the Board would like us to believe they are simply focused on doing what's best for Arsenal. Selling millions in shares to anyone doesn't strike me as doing what's best for Arsenal, especially not as they cut investment in the team significantly to give themselves this opportunity.

No, louder is the one who refuses to see anything in front of him ie. the glaring weaknesses in our team, and abuses those who disagree.USMartin wrote:I get you and Louder confused....Lethal wrote:policies, banks, boards bla bla bla
