Elephant & Castle - Help

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

Elephant & Castle - Help

Post by Pistols »

A friend of mine and his wife are travelling to the Champions League game next week. His wife has booked a hotel for some bizarre reason in the Elephant and Castle. I've heard that this is not one of the more pleasant areas of London - myth or fact.

It's not pretty but its ok. E&C is basically a big roundabout but near enough Waterloo and Borough Market/London bridge which are more scenic. And its being regenerated at the moment.

Nothing wrong with South East London, people - its where Arsenal began.

I went to college there about 20 years ago and it wasnt great then and went back about 5 years ago on another course and it was much worse. Just tell him to be careful and sensible

Cheers guys, I'll tell them to go straight to the hotel after the game rather than sink a few in the 12 Pins.

Watch out for this nut!

If they get the tube into town they should be fine, but in seriousness they should avoid the actual pub called Elephant and Castle, can get a bit rough in there, some Millwall drink in there.

The E and C area has improved vastly over the last few years, I'd still be a bit wary about going through the subway area around there, but it has alot of CCTV now, so it shouldn't be a problem. They're also improving the whole upper level, traffic lighting and round-about area, the area isn't as bad as it was.

Thiose subway/underpasses that go underneath the roundabout were very dodgy

Some of my family used to live around the Elephant.

They've all moved away now. Thankfully. :D

Hmmm, that subway that featured in Harry Brown is nowhere near the Elephant and Castle, but it's actually goes underneath the A12 between Mark's Gate and Chadwell Heath... :?

I know Frank, but the story is supposed to be set in E&C area as Michael Caine said that...and he was born there.

So there.
