A little bit, but more Grime.

Skepta, Wiley, even a bit of Giggs.

But you have Baile Funk which we do not have.

No idea what they are singing or rhyming about as I do not speak Portuguese, but the beats are good to dance to.

Of course Miami Bass which is similar was played here from the mid 80's, (MC Shy D was often played on Mike Allen's Hip Hop show), but I think your Baile Funk has a good bounce to it.

baile funk may be fun, but it is too poor musicaly in my opinion, quartz. the lyrics are exclusively about sex and relationships between young people. and when i say sex, i don't mean 'barry white' sex, i mean 'belladonna sticking nacho vidal's schlong in her arse' sex.
not only that, but baile funk happens mostly on favelas, and to go to one and get back home without getting shot, mugged or raped is not very usual...

as a guy who likes dub and reggae, no other style of electronic music suits me more than dubstep. it's a shame that brazil is still in it's early days when it comes to electronic music.

for you to understand it better, this is a baile funk:

and this is a nice party close to where i live with mostly dubstep, prog, psy...:

open air, lots of trees, beer, nice girls, good music... see the difference?

Yeah!
Less sweaty, and an older crowd.

I am mainly a Hip Hop fan, but I like a bit of dubstep too, though not for a whole night.

That Baile Funk scene does look young so I guess that is why the lyrics are so "Slack", bit like Bashment.

Maybe you can make a Brazilian version of Dubstep?

By the way, this album by BK One "Radio Do Canibal" is American Hip Hop but it sampled Brazilian music on most tracks, it is good.

great shout, quartz! will listen to it after work.

and you're right about the age difference. the lyrics and music simplicity of baile funk really pleases the youngsters, specially the ones with a poor background. the fact that you only need a simple computer software and cheap microphone to record that kind of funk also helps the less 'priviliged' to record their own stuff - hence why it's popular over here.

and to be honest i think i'd get tired in a night with only dubstep - that's why we usually mix it, a couple of hours of dubstep, then some trance, or psy, or whatever... :D :barscarf:

i'm not really into brazilian music tbh, and as a rock'n'roll and reggae/dub man, i'm actually using some more organic sounds in the songs i'm recording. it's some heavy but melodic dubstep but with reggae-style guitars and synthesizers :barscarf: :barscarf:
