fa cup lost its magic

All this talk of teams fielding weakened squads that has made the fa cup become a joke may be true, but what also pisses me off is the continuation of bbc to show all manure fa cup games. Surely, instead of watching the now customary manure villa cup game, and even our game at burnley, we could have watched the oldham everton match, coventry blackburn, or teams not in the top flight. Fair enough, teh beeb like itv will argue they get higher viewing figures, but i dont wanna watch a run of the mill premiership game, i wouldnt mind watchin somethin else even if it is long ball shit.
Take yeovil torquay (1-4) recently, that was a terrific game to watch, and even tonight instead of hammers v man city, why couldnt they have put on swansea vs havant & waterlooville!! One day, people will revolt, che guevara style!!

I think that since the CL was extended to non-champs then the FA Cup lost it's magic.

The FA Cup used to be on a par with the league, then better than all but winning the Premiership. Then coming 2nd/3rd/4th or staying in the Prem became better than winning the cup.

It still has some pull - but it's like it's become the new League Cup.

The League Cup in turn has lessened, but found a new niche altogether being a cross between the ZDS Cup and a bigger version of the FA Youth Cup.

F.A Cup is a bit like trooping of the colour and changing of the guard, the tourists love it but for everyone else its a fucking inconvinience that gets in the way of real business.

I love the FA Cup and will always consider it a major trophy. It must be said though that it has been devalued by the race for the top four premiership spots. Maybe there is something to be said for Platinis idea of the winner entering the champions league. Although you would run the risk of an Oldham Althletic or a Reading representing English football in Europe, the desire to win the trophy would return among all clubs.
I know that the winner has been a top four club anyway during the last few years but could you imagine the scousers finishing fourth this year and say Man City winning the cup. How funny would that be!

That would have put Millwall in a few years ago as Man U qualified through league position.

Yeah, that's a shite idea.

I don't get why the FA and Carling cups aren't taken seriously by clubs outside the top four. It's a great chance for Europe, especially as the bigger boys often have biger fish to fry.

yeha i've alsways loved the fa cup - unfortunately some of my earliest memories was our 3-1 loss to a teams whose names evades me.....
but i think the beeb could do with putting some more interestign games ona nd sticking their neck out a bit - it gives teams a chance to be on the box who wouldnt normally be on there instead of the fucking mancs. Agree that it is not as important as it used ot be when one considers financial aspects etc.

remember when young in ireland and the fa cup final was the biggest game of the year, would get up early and watch all the build up on bbc,, the first game i remember was 77 manu v liverpool and then the following tear breaking down in tears after the west ham game,, 79 thou was something else thou, and been the only gooner i my park i left them know all about it

but its not the same and one of the reasons is games on tv now every day which takes away from the magic,,
still a cup i want us to win but its now third on the list isnt it

I'm not personally in favour of the idea either. What I was trying to point out was that you can see what Platinis logic was behind his idea. It has certain merits but overall no, I wouldn't want to see the likes of Millwall etc. in the Champions League.

It doesn"t help playing the semi-finals of the FA Cup the sat or sun before the CL games.Remember in 2004 when Manure kicked us off the park in the semi four days before the Chelski game in the CL.The fucking FA don"t help english teams in europe.

If the FA want to help teams in the CL ban replays in the early rounds.Look how much that hurt us last year..If you get drawn away hard luck.Decide every game on the day with pens.There are no replays for the semi-final and final so why have replays in the early rounds? oh i forgot MONEY

EITHER WATFORD IN THE 80's OR BOLTON IN THE 90's PROBABLY.

Man C v W Ham was appalling - neither side showed any desire whatsoever. Obviously a few quid from gate receipts - and a few more injuries - are no match for the chance of even a UEFA Cup place or even just staying in the Premier League. I too searched for the Swansea game which would have given H&W some extra finance over and above their trip to Anfield - it might have been their only financial reward had they lost to Swansea as expected. And th prospect of giant killing is surely what the FA Cup is all about - so why not show it? We can watch - or better still switch off - Man C and W Ham any time, though I'd much rather watch the Arsenal anyway than such dross.
