Arsene's obsession

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Arsene's obsession

Post by Goonanana »

Is anybody starting to wonder if AW's lack of spending has now become some kind of deeply embedded phsychological challenge?

Despite some of our performances, the playing of people out of position, the sale of some squad members, the ACN and the piles of cash in reserve he is adament he will not buy.

It seems to me he has dug his heels in and adopted a "its me against the world" attitude. He is so determined to show that he can win things without spending big that he will flat out refuse to buy, ignoring all the indiactors that he should. Maybe he will somehow think that if he purchases some players in order to challenge for trophies he will be a failure or no better that Sir Alex or Jose. Maybe he wants to show he is a better manager or a better talent spotter or a better coach because if he does it he will have done it without spending? Maybe he is so deermined to prove the media and the fans wrong and take all the plaudits that he has been left with tunnel vision. Perhaps he is the metaphorical man who will until his dying day be determined to chop down that tree with a stick of celery even if it takes forever...

As a club we have never been big spenders i remember thinking a similar thing when George Graham was boss and the likes of Roy Keane joined Manure when according to the papers we had a chance of getting him. Im not sure if it is a Wenger thing or an Arsenal thing but i must admit it is f**king frustrating during these windows

Before it used to be we didn"t spend hugh amounts of money now its we dont buy any established players.Only young players who MAY one day reach their potential. That is a very big gamble.I still dont know why we didn"t even try to sign Anelka. We may not have got him in front of Chelski but try for F**ks sake

it could be argued that Wenger isnt as good a manager as either SAF or Jose..bith these have won back2 back titles and succeded in europe..wenger has failed on both counts.... as for cash well for the same money you paid for Reyes , we got CR

well I will ignore you insult, its no doubt the a result of poor london education standards and manners...but the first poster raised the issue comparing wenger with Jose and SAF..thats what it has to do with this subject.

I have floated this very idea on this forum before and I do believe that it is all about showing the football world that he can do it his way much as he did when he spoke about going the season unbeaten a few years ago. It is as frustrating as hell and there is a big difference from being classed as a club that never spent big to where we are now a club that doesnt spend period. I remember reading an article last season where it told of how wenger won a league with monaco and then tried to rebuild with lots of young players and failed and was sacked as a result and you do fear we could be going down a similar road. Mind you it could be worse.....we could have comolli buying donkeys for us like our good friends down the road

By the way paco dont ever dare compare Arsene Wenger with either old blue nose & moanino - history will show hom much spending both of them did in persuit of their trophies where wenger spent peanuts in comparison. Even your great manure ambassador(beckham) told ferguscum a few seasons ago that wenger is streets ahead of him as a manager which of course led to the infamous boot flying through the air and amazingly hitting poor becks in the face
