Rooney's Off!! Erm.... apparently No he isn't now.

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

I think it's obvious what this is - a deal to get Rooney to to stand down and let the Club sell him on the club's terms and for as much as possible.

It's a face-saver nothing more at this point. The only way that could not be the case is if the Glazer's are bought out and the debt is reduced sufficiently as a result to allow the club to be more ambitious again in the transfer market.

Otherwise this just allows the club to appease the supporters who were aghast at Rooney asking to leave, and softens the blow to them when he leaves. It also means United will get the most money possible softening the blow to the business, and maybe ISr Alex gets a bit more money to strngthen his side which softens the blow to the football team on the pitch IF the money is actually used.

It's little different from what happened with Ashley Cole and Thierry Henry's last deals here I would reckon. Unless there is new ownership in place with significantly more flexibility to invest in the team than the Glazers now have it's almost a banker that Wayne Rooney will play his last match for United in May 2011 - if he is fit to play then.

There is a lesson here btw - to all of us. When you say our Board was doing the very same thing the United Board is doing now with Cole or Henry everyone goes wild and says "our Board does not do things that way" even though it's plainly easy for us when not looking through supporters's glasses to see United's Board doing it.

The lack of objectivity is a real problem here because it will not allow us to see things realistically when they concern Arsenal and/or our Board and it's behavior. It's sad because that lack of objectivity and how it makes us willfully ignorant at times only hurt the club we love so much that it makes being objective that much more difficult. And we can't afford to deal with these issues without objectivity any longer.

Anyone that thinks the chavs and/or citeh won't come in with a HUGE offer in January is on the fucking drugs. And not the good ones either.
Bingo! Anyone spouting shit that this was all a ploy made up by rednose is giving him credit where its not due, there is no way he would do this to get more transfer funds so i wish they would shut up about it on the radio wanking over his intelligence. Its exactly what you said, he gets more money for the next 3-9 months to keep his mouth shut and will be sold off in the summer.

Actually I could see that but not here. Ferguson has always been a bully to get what he wants. This would require cleverness and subtlety which are really alien to him in these situatioons. And completely alien to Wayne Rooney. Having seen him in commercials he could not possibly pull off the acting job required to sell a ruse like that. NO way.
