Szczesny - He is the One and Only

Post by Never Outgunned »

And after tonight's performance - you can't take that away from him.

Let's not get fooled by Fabianski's Alumunia-like rise from calamity to average middle ranking premiership goalkeeper, give Chesney a go.

He may be only 21 but with his confidence between the sticks, he's a man not a boy.

one mistake which the defence made up for, but one really great save too.

Id stick with not so-flappy-at-the-mo-touch-wood for now and see how he does.

He was very good agaist citeh so stick with him for now.

I agree with this. He had a confident performance but I would still stick with Fabianski who has done fantastic in his last few appearances. Almunia should be sold however, because if it's not LF21 then it's gotta be WS...53?

If Almunia or Fabianski had made that dashing out error, I wonder if the reaction would be the same?

Fabianski has won us a huge game and is playing well, I see no reason to drop him. I would keep Almunia and put him on the bench simply so our other young Pole can get playing time in the reserves but if Fabianski got injured, would give Czheny the chance

Agreed. Let's not get too carried away with one good performance against a relatively weak Toon side in a mickey mouse cup a few days before they play one of their biggest games of the year.

So in essence - in the same way we shouldn't be fooled by Fabianski, we should be fooled by Scsezny.

How did I know I would find exactly this thread on here this morning!

He looked fine, nothing more and nothing less.

There are much bigger tests to come than a Newcastle reserve side.

Flaps to remain number 1, promote chesney to number two and show Almunia the door.

I too would stick with flappy as he doesnt deserve to be dropped right now. My big concern however is that chesney can fcuk off next summer and without a doubt he will do so unless he is getting more 1st team action than he is now. I did want chesney to get a run in the team up until the last few weeks but that was totally down to the fact that the other keepers have had countless chances and continued to fcuk up   I understand that he is totally unproven but at that stage surely an unproven keeper would be a better option than two proven to be shite options ?? For that reason I did/do want the guy to get a chance and I totally stand by that line of reasoning and do not feel wrong for doing so 8)

he looked good allright, but if not here, then for sure on the danish board everyone was praising fabi after the city game.... Id still go for Fabianski for now, but make sure that scsezney stays, because he looks like the real deal for the future... hopefully he will get a few more games in the Cups maybe :barscarf: old Al, id say ship him off as soon as possible.

Agree with most of the comments on here. He looked ok....but there were one or two errors that could have cost us dear. Not criticising him....but equally not getting carried away.

Exactly - it's no wonder players believe their own hype and agents start demanding 100% pay rises for their players when one Carling Cup game sends the fans into a frenzy.

Now, I really want this boy to make it as we have had a terrible run with keepers since Mad Jens left, but as I mentioned on another thread I remember clearly a large group of people going wild over Fabianski on the back of a few Hollywood saves against Wigan in this Cup a couple of years back.

When I pointed out this exaggeration last night with Chesney one of the retorts was that "Brentford fans think he is their best ever keeper".....which I think says everything about exaggerating our praise of him. And exactly who are Brentford's other great keepers of the past ?? :D Shouldn't it naturally figure that a guy Arsenal have great hopes for is better than anything a bottom half of League One side have produced in their history ??

The fact is if Ranger had gone to ground when nipping it past him at 0-0, we'd have been down to 10 men and the whole "Arsenal need a keeper" would have been the headline from the match

But as I said, I really want him to work out. Loads of encouraging signs in the 2nd half - put him in for all of the FA and Beer Cup matches but not CL and PL just yet. Give him a chance

The second flappy makes a mistake Arsenal should put him in as number 1.

He not only had a good game last but he had something we haven’t had for a long time “presenceâ€
