Manure v Scum Now the Tyne Wear derby thread! Go figure.

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

You're actually probably the only other team I actually like.

Don't hate any lower league teams but no real fondness for anyone.

Just want southern teams to come up, that's it.

Actually I quite like Hartlepool, but that's a Football Manager-induced like.
dont start me on FM marra  , I went to Gijon in Spain just because i loved going them on FM- ended up finding the match i was hoping to go to was sold out (it was only Sporting Gijon v Deportivo ffs) and had to watch in a pub! Also got a Weymouth strip after a good campaign with them on FM (Darren Wheeler was class!). Its a dangerous thing is FM!
I like Atletico Madrid and St. Pauli. They create a fantastic atmosphere especially the boys who play in the German league.

Having said that, i wouldn't say i 'hate' them, although i must say the north east in general seems to have an inferiority complex about the south as epitomised by the reaction to darren bent not going to the world cup. It was bizarre in the sense that its very unlikely fabio capello cares if bent plays in the south or not and also in the sense that I've always viewed the football media in this country to have a slant towards the north-west.
i think a lot of our fans just thought it was strange that phillips never got a real chance (despite still being the only englishman to win the european golden boot), and then benty comes up here and struggles like fuck to get a chance whereas the likes of defoe (who took ages to get his first england goal as well) gets picked every time. Over the last 3 seasons, only (i think) drogba, rooney and ronaldo have outscored bent, in yet the media hardly mentioned it when he wasnt taken- they made much more fuss about the exclusion of walcott and dawson (until the ferdinand injury got him back in). If Benty was playing every game for spurs and scoring as many as he did for SAFC, i think he would have gone to the WC and if he hadnt there would have been an outcry. Instead, the impression we got was "oh well, he's only at sunderland anyway, fuck him". We then went and couldnt score- no surprise when your top scorer is playing shite and too busy thinking about shagging whores and the next best english goal scorer is watching it on tele

I dont think its a pro southern bias personally, but i do think its an anti SAFC (and other unfashionable clubs) agenda
I guess we're never going to know why bent didn't go ahead of defoe, maybe capello just felt it would be best to get as many players that play in the same teams as possible, and that comes from favouring the top clubs.

I know that personally despite his impressive goal tally theres always been something in the back of my mind that has prevented me from rating him that highly as an all-round striker. But at the same time i have the exact same feeling about defoe

Yep, I've been around but I had my say on the game yesterday in the one thread and left it at that- being a Gooner forum I didnt want to outstay me welcome by going on about it in numerous threads on a single day (plus, after posting about it for a while i went out and got absolutely pissed out of me face, only waking up a couple of hours ago with an incredible hangover)!

As I mentioned, it was gutting, we were awful, the side who were 10x better on the day won and it makes the rest of our season largely irrelevant since we wont beat them by 4 in the return game, wont go down (although on that evidence it wouldnt surprise you), wont get europe, wont win the fa cup- just a dull season to "look forward" to, whilst continuing to contribute to the wages of millionaires who in many cases are mediocre at best.

Oh well, thats football I suppose- at least i havent been on here saying "we're class, we're going to get top 4 and win the cup", I've always been very honest about how good or otherwise SAFC are- we leave delusion to those bastards up the road who, quite rightly, are thoroughly enjoying ripping the piss at the minute.

When they went down we gave it to them on a large scale (banner on the tyne bridge saying "well done FTM", fake road signs erected by the side of the motorway pointing the way to the CCC club, a Mackem pretending to be a rich businessman wanting to invest in their club getting interviews in their local papers etc only to turn round and admit it was a hoax after getting them all excited), in football you enjoy the good times but it will ALWAYS go the other way eventually, you just have to be big enough to accept that and let them get on with it. Eventually, we will have a reason to laugh at them again and the boot will be back on the other foot! I'm certainly not hiding just because of a defeat though- i had a season ticket when we went down with 15 (and when we went down with 19) points- the one home game i missed all season was the one we won, so i have experienced enough defeats not to go hiding!

I enjoyed taking the piss out of you last evening but now I feel bad!

I have no particular affection for the barcodes and I would be taking the piss out of any geordie if Sunderland would have won yesterday.

I still believe SAFC can achieve a top 7 place. They've enough to upset Everton, Aston Villa, Liverpool and the lot up the road.

(Between you and me I have a tenner on SAFC to be in the top 7 so I would very much like a return on my investment)

  don't! You dont come on an opposition forum and expect never to have the piss taken out of you a bit if you lose 5-1 to your nearest and "dearest". People who have been on here a while will know that I didn't boast at all when we beat Arsenal at the SoL last season, or when we grabbed a late draw this season, so I think because of that I'm not likely to get particularly vicious abuse on here when Sunderland lose, but there's nowt wrong with a bit of light hearted ribbing!

Actually it was great Sir Norris!

We were allowed to bring beers and cider inside the stadium (ofcourse bought from wembley kiosks) and there was a pretty decent atmosphere for a NFL game. There were a few lads from Gillingham behind me and we started some decent chants going and fans from other footie clubs also joined in. My mates from across the pond were totally bemused by the whole singing and chanting at one of their games but it was all in good spirit (met a few Arsenal fans outside block L where we got the Nasri chant going for a few mins).

Excellent evening out! Nothing wrong with celebrating, living life and embracing another culture for a few hours.

Forgot to add! We sang 'God Save the Queen' with heart and voice

hard luck safcftm mate - we all know how shit it feels to get a drubbing by the deluded neighbours up the road. Thankfully these things are rare. 8)
