Can we ARSENAL carry on as a library?
My point re yesterday's debacle -
2-0 up and pretty quite, 2-1 still quiet and 2-2 virtually nothing. Not that i'm blaming us fans on the whole, but some of the blame lies with us as a unit ?
THIS TOPIC IS FOR GOONERS WHO CARE:-
If you're a ST holder in the NB (North Bank) and used to sing, but don't anymore - PLEASE APPLY TO MOVE YOUR SEAT
If you're a ST holder in the NB (North Bank) and don't sing - PLEASE APPLY TO MOVE YOUR SEAT
If you're a ST holder in another part of the ground (eg WEST, EAST) and take part in ev opportunity to sing but feel alone when you try (surrounded by non triers) - PLEASE APPLY TO MOVE YOUR SEAT INTO THE NTH BANK
I feel with the help of Redaction (not focusing on just those that want to stand and sing), we can put this case to the club - anyone up for this?
To make the NB a proper 'home' end, singing/chanting - the goal yes - the noisiest home end in the PL - why not ? who wants it ?
Then, (like the link attached re Besiktas v Fenerbace), we can help create that goal - that ev set of home supporters should guarantee for their players - a blxxdy advantage.
Sure i expect a few moaners on here - i'm pixxed off with yesterday too - but ACTION is needed NOW!

I admire the intention but to be honest this problem is not unique to Arsenal and I get quite pissed at the misplaced view that our atmosphere is so much worse than other grounds. I know you're not saying that and your intentions are good BTW....
I've been inside OT, Stamford Bridge, Villa Park, St James Park and yes even Anfield (where the atmosphere myth is one of the most irritating in football) and more often than not the travelling fans have outsung the home fans. Its a fact of football life - the away fans produce more noise.
West Ham are another case in point. They outsung as at the bowl a few weeks back but go to their place when they're losing and all you can hear are moans and groans and there's a mass exodus long before the final whistle.
I saw OT yesterday when United were cruising to a 2-0 win - no atmosphere and a ground with plenty of empty seats before the whistle was blown.
Not sure what on earth you can do to buck the trend of home fans everywhere but good luck with it.
Personally, it doesn't bother me a lot compared to other issues at the club but nor will it do any harm to try and improve it.

Coasting... so the team coast?!IrishJB wrote:nope - my point is 2nd half when 2-0 up (maybe didnt make that clear) - coasting ... so the team coasttinpot lane wrote:You thought we were quiet in the first half yesterday?

Irish, although I accept that our fans aren't always the best (the first half ole's weren't to my liking) the players coasting is not the fault of the supporters! - they coast because they lack the intelligence, maturity, drive and hunger to stay focused for 90 minutes.
It's a mental weakness, and happens home and away regardless of what support the fans give them.
In fact, I think it's more down to believing their own hype and getting carried away with their own (limited) success that screws them up. They just can't keep their feet on the ground and behave like professionals. They take their foot of the gas, and that's when things go wrong.
It's down to Wenger, not the fans.

Completely agree it's infinitely more to do with Wenger & the players own attitude but incidentally (& a bit contradictorily) it was when the oles started in the 1st half that I first thought we were gonna end up throwing it away.g88ner wrote:Coasting... so the team coast?!IrishJB wrote:nope - my point is 2nd half when 2-0 up (maybe didnt make that clear) - coasting ... so the team coasttinpot lane wrote:You thought we were quiet in the first half yesterday?![]()

Agreed - which is why I said yesterday that the GIC should have a swear box for every time he trips out that constant bollocks about "great mental strength". I could actually be moved to violence if I hear that uttered again this yearIts Up 4 Grabs Now wrote:Completely agree it's infinitely more to do with Wenger & the players own attitude but incidentally (& a bit contradictorily) it was when the oles started in the 1st half that I first thought we were gonna end up throwing it away.g88ner wrote:Coasting... so the team coast?!IrishJB wrote:nope - my point is 2nd half when 2-0 up (maybe didnt make that clear) - coasting ... so the team coasttinpot lane wrote:You thought we were quiet in the first half yesterday?![]()

And for it to happen in the first half should have been even more ammunition for Wenger to set it straight at half-time & make sure they didn't get complacent.
What I found quite shocking yesterday was that the NB was rocking first half. Then the 2nd half people took ages to return to their seats and when they did the atmosphere was the same as any other PL game.
Maybe the fans were nervous but don't fucking show it, sing your heart out and try and boost the team on.
On another note, I'll explain the type of fan we have in the NB, the seat next to me is shared by 2 guys. The seat was EMPTY yesterday!!! There are 2 of them so surely one could make it!? Its probably the biggest home game of the season and they dont turn up or lend it to a mate. Disgraceful.

You hear this time and time again. However, I don't think it is appreciated how much the fanbase has changed. We used to have a young fanatical crowd who loved the singing and chanting (as did most clubs). The middle classes who prefer to sit and just watch had their bit in the east and west stands. Now, however, the crowd is predominantly the income and age group of the old east and west stand, with a sprinkling of the old diehards.
All of the people I used to go with to the North Bank have long gone, priced out and not interested in the hassle to get a ticket for a B game. The A games are stupidly expensive.
So moan as much as you like, but football has changed and the old crowd atmosphere has mainly gone, except for the odd crucial tie. As crowds have changed so have footballers. Just remember that you are watching a team of millionaires, many of whom have little idea of Arsenal history or tradition. Of course they want to win, but losing is just a bad day at the office, not a do or die encounter.
Football is a commercial entertainment, like American football, which the PL was modelled on. We can regret it, but we can't change it or get the old days back.
