If we allow one weapon per chimp and accept that they have a slash/stab radius of approx one metre I think the sharks would issolate individual chimps and tear them to shreds. Lack of chimp agility in water would prevent them teaming up effectively.

I'm going with a fatality count of 5 chimps to every shark. Sharks win.
I'm not sure a 5:1 fatality ratio is accurate. Sharks would sail through to victory with nothing more than flesh wounds.

It would take a huge amount of luck for a chimpanzee to inflict a fatal blow on a shark in water, with any stabbing device. The drag ratio of water is a substantial handicap for any land mammal as they just aren't streamlined enough, therefore compromising their maneuverability and impeding the chimps ability to thrust the stabbing device at the required velocity to pierce the sharks tough skin.

I think, for fairness, you'd have to hold the fight in a paddling pool. That way, the shark can attack under water, yet the chimpazee - up to his waist in water - has the advantage of wielding the stabbing device out of the water.

I feel such a fight could yield a shark to chimp fatality ratio of around 1:1.

I cannot allow this to take part in a paddling pool unless it is at least 3 feet deep (or a "Spuddy" deep, if you will).

Also, your water drag ratio is incorrect when considering stabbing motion against slashing motion. Slashing would create excessive drag but stabbing creates 89.5% less drag due to the "pointy bit" theory of hydro-dynamic inflection. I would then contend that monkeys (with scuba gear let us not forget) would indeed be well capable of inflicting limited casualties upon the sharks. I stand by my original fatality calculation of 5 chimps to 1 shark be it in a 3 foot deep paddling pool or ocean.
