Simple question...why arent we buying?
Simple question...why arent we buying?
Seems to me like we are still short in a number of areas or that fringe players as per last night arent up to the job.Surely with the position we are in the league and with Kolo and RVP out of the team for differing reasons we need a couple of fresh recruits. One minor criticsm of AW (and i know it isnt allowed) is that he will rarely buy when we are strong instead waiting for a crisis to happen b4 acting on it. The other point is he cant pick a keeper for toffee.
Not buying
Fair point i know AW is always looking for value or the bargain of the century as he calls it. You would trust AW with your last £ cos he certainly wouldnt spend it.

His comment earlier this year speaks volumes. I can't remember it word for word but it was something like:-
"There are a lot of players out there with a world class price tag but very few world class players"
To me that suggests that he thinks the market is over inflated and if he is going to take a chance on whether a player will fit into his system then he would rather risk a little money than a lot.

Well this transfer window he would only spend on 'the bargain of the century'.
Wenger likes to do things his way, and that method is one in which we will not see a host of fully developed players being signed. Wenger's singing are young, and ready to be shaped into the kind of player he needs.
I'd imagine Arsene is a good chess player, he is always thinking ahead.

That rules us out of signing any truly world class players because they dont come cheap. This is the club that issued profits of £200m last october and is playing to full houses every week.Arsene has recently been linked with two 15 year olds.MadnessMagic Hat wrote:The players are not there at a price Arsene thinks reasonable is my guess

I think you should clarify that he is interested in them as players and only as players. God knows with some of those hanging around this site today we don't want to give them ammo

Buying
This is the one i dont understand. Playing to full houses, great youngsters, enviable playing style and manager of total visionary status. Yet financial outlay that is being outstripped by some of the garbage of the Premiership like Sunderland and Birmingham. Can anyone get hold of a league table over the last 5 years showing purely money spent? Compared to our rivals our expenditure is paltry and we seem totally unwilling to buy top talent.
Example Fernando Torres...top top player. Cost 20m. Would have loved to play for us and would have suited us as well. Answer-too expensive.

I wonder what that would be. Kaka on a free transfer?lowerwest wrote:Fair point i know AW is always looking for value or the bargain of the century as he calls it.

Buying
Gliberto is on borrowed time and will be off in the summer. Hobbles around like an old man with ricketts now. Shame as he has been a great signing for us and as per Wenger great value. More energy is needed in there and yes Diarra was an answer. So we made 3m on him lets bloody invest it.
As a manager I was a huge fan of GG but that crap he came out with near the end of his reign about quality players not being available at the right prices really pissed me off then and still pisses me off now
Simple facts state that I want to watch a commited quality team playing in a quality stadium and because over that I am paying top prices for the privilege - I do not expect to be paying the same money for tickets that I spent 5,10 or 20 years ago, so can wenger and our board please wise up to the fact that the prices in the transfer market has gone up and we now need to pay the going rate IF we want to bring quality players into our club. In any walk of life supply and demand dictate market prices and if you want top quality you must pay prices accordingly. I have zero problem with wenger trying to develop quality players but to do this successfully he must supplement this with quality experienced players. I have never heard of the club offering discounts on tickets prices on the basis of planning solely for the future so a few quality players with our potential should be a must

we dont need to go into a state of panic here guys. we didn't have this thread after we drew away at liverpool, drew at home to manure, beat chelski at home and beat everton in a tough game did we? so why now?
if last night had been against blackburn, would be be having the same discussions, i think not.
