Questions over Gallas’ captaincy at the Lane (23/1)

usual thread starter… ye olde captaincy debate raises it’s head again. However, would like the full story behind the Adebayor/Bendtner incident before casting judgment on Gallas’ intervention. Any ideas why Ade butted him?

Dont make me laugh.Gilberto should not even be in the team.In both legs v the Spuds he was our worse player by a mile. Gallas has been a great captain this season. And last night Gallas was the peacemaker between Ade and Bendtner. He probably save them both from getting red cards

WELL SAID DONALDO. WAS JUST ABOUT TO WRITE THE SAME THING. THE AUTHOR IS SUGGESTING THAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER TO MAKE CAPTAIN A PLAYER WHO CAN NO LONGER GET INTO THE SIDE (GILBERTO) ABOVE SOMEONE WHO IS ASSURED OF HIS PLACE (GALLAS). :?

THE WORST THING IS THAT THE AUTHOR BASED HIS ARGUMENT ON THE SUPPOSED FIGHT BETWEEN GALLAS AND BENDTNER - AN INCIDENT HE GOT ARSE OVER BACKWARDS!!

THERE ARE A LOT OF ARSENAL FANS THAT DON'T FULLY APPRECIATE WHAT WE HAVE DONE SO FAR THIS SEASON AND HAVE WORRIES THAT WE MAY NOT BE STRONG ENOUGH TO WIN SOMETHING THIS YEAR. THAT IS A FAIR ENOUGH OPINION TO HOLD AND MAY PROVE TRUE IN THE FINAL ANALYSIS.

HOWEVER, TO START SAYING THAT GALLAS SHOULD NO LONGER BE CAPTAIN AFTER ONE POOR TEAM PERFORMANCE, WHILST IN THE SAME PIECE ADMITTING THAT HE HAD DONE A GOOD JOB THUS FAR, SMACKS OF PANIC AND OVER-REACTION!!

We always get pushing forward, we never seemed to give up or just try to limit the damage, we always looked for a goal and maybe a comeback. Yes Gallas had an awful game but the team could easily have crumpled in other ways, when Big Dane headed into his own net Gallas was there to talk to him, when an argument was going on, Gallas tried to calm his team mates down.

How we bounce back will be a test of the team's mentality, not just Gallas. One bad night does not vindicate stripping him of the arm band

Agree - one poor performance doesn't make a winter. However, do feel sorry for Gilberto and think he would have done better in the circumstances, but he is a shadow of the man who led our youth team in previous campaigns.

Gallas had a bad day at the office, just like the team ... but to suggest gilberto as captain is taking the biscuit ... I actually lay the blame for the loss on Gilberto wholly ..

In fact, it will pain very greatly if gilberto is not sold b4 the end of the transfer window, or if he ever features in defensive midfield for us again .. the guy is dire .. we missed flamster or diarra (why did wenger ever agree to let him go ?) so much .. I think we should rush into the market and purchase some central midfield cover, now denilson is also injured .. or buy a left winger, and start converting diaby to defensive midfield ..

gilberto was literally the invisible wall last night ..

I take it the Gilberto comment was meant to be amusing.

I think its a joke that after one poor game as captain anyone can start to doubt gallas' ability to lead the team. The guy has been brilliant all season...what more do u want from him?! Is he expected to score 5 goals every game?! Should we instead put him in goal where he will not concede a single goal?!
I think its a joke that a lot of supporters are soo quick to judge players after a poor performance. The same thing happens with Adebayor, the guy is amazing and is one of the hardest working players in the team yet people still doubt his ability. Last year Hleb came under the same scrutiny, yet look at him this season?!

I understand that as Arsenal supporters we always strive for the best but instead of shouting off about a player after 1 bad game, look at the team as a whole.....footballs a team game at the end of the day and its the team as whole that win or lose games.

As for Gilberto being made captain, I love the guy but his standards this season haven't even come close to what they have been previously and I personally don't think he's anywhere near the right frame of mind to lead the team.
