fa cup lost its magic

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

you missed my nonsense, admit it! :P

Tell Havant and Waterloovile that the FA Cup doesn't matter or that it has lost its magic, tell it to Millwall players who got to the final. It is still a rarity in that this is a domestic cup that teams want to win (remember the fuss Liverpool fans kicked up after the Burnely game) and is still watched around the world, little teams still get through, we still end up fielding 5 strikers in a semi despite a CL quarter final in next few days. Sure, the league and CL has diminished the cup but it is still more important then perhaps it should be logically, it still has the magic to enthral us

rebel gooner wrote:remember when young in ireland and the fa cup final was the biggest game of the year, would get up early and watch all the build up on bbc,, the first game i remember was 77 manu v liverpool and then the following tear breaking down in tears after the west ham game,, 79 thou was something else thou, and been the only gooner i my park i left them know all about it
but its not the same and one of the reasons is games on tv now every day which takes away from the magic,,
still a cup i want us to win but its now third on the list isnt it
Sorry to be a pedantic twat Rebel but we lost to Ipswich in 78 and WHam in 80. Those 3 cup finals were what kept us going between 71 and 89. the 71 and 79 wins will always have a special place in my heart and what with the final being the only live game for most of my life the cup will always be special to me.

PS am I allowed to correct Rebel or am I finished on the forum?

You can say whatever you want Chippy! Doesn't change the fact that it is third on our wish list does it?
I love the FA Cup but I would rather win the Premiership or the Champions League.
I remember as a kid how we would watch the build up all day with a living room full of dads friends and a party seven. It's still an all day affair for me when we are in the final but if we are not I have been known to not watch it at all.

I agree completely that it is our third priority but I would rather win it than not and cup final day when we're in it is bloody special even if not going.

The other great thing about it is all the little guys coming through and loads of premiership clubs already out. Havant at Anfield. How cool is that? 8)

I agree, I'd rather win it too. But then I'm greedy and want to win everything. I've got to admit that if, and lets face it it's a massive if, Havant beat Liverpool by some ludicrous fluke, well wouldn't that be something.
